Interestingly, fashion critics over the years had noticed one particular change in the late Princess’ style statements, and that was the moment precisely when she gave up on her liking for blue eyeliners. While it had surprised many, years later, it was Diana’s makeup artist, who revealed the reason behind it. In a 2017 interview with Yahoo Beauty, Mary Greenwell spoke about it and shared how the late Princess started to appreciate beige and brown more. In her words:
“I think beiges and browns are just so much prettier. Simple as that. She felt no need to be showy, so she kept her makeup subtle and appropriate for the occasion. She loved to exaggerate her gorgeous eyes and wear loads of mascara. She was someone who was in the public eye presenting herself all the time to the public. It isn’t particularly appropriate to go on changing your look every five seconds.”
In the same interaction, Greenwell highlighted how Diana was quite interested in the art of makeup and added how she didn’t think twice before her decision to play around it a bit. Moreover, she emphasised how Diana would majorly want to make her eyes prominent among all her looks, and for the same, she often used to switch over between picks of green or blue eyeshadow. She mentioned:
