Presley Gerber’s doctor allegedly prescribed him ketamine
A report by TMZ on September 22, 2026, claimed that a physician was reportedly issuing ketamine prescriptions to Presley Gerber even though he was aware of his past struggles with the drug.
Sources who stayed in close touch with Presley and had firsthand information told TMZ that the doctor continued to prescribe it despite knowing about his addiction history. While ketamine is sometimes used off-label for addiction treatment, it is not FDA-approved for that use.
The same source also alleged that ketamine remained an ongoing struggle for Presley, and his inner circle is furious over the prescription, believing the doctor should face legal consequences. It is still unclear what substances, if any, were in Presley’s system at the time of his death, only that he had confided to friends about his problems with ketamine before he died.
Presley Gerber was candid for years about his long battle with addiction and mental health issues. He first faced public legal trouble in 2019 after a DUI arrest in Beverly Hills, which resulted in probation. In the years that followed, he spoke openly about feeling lost and anxious under the pressure of growing up in a famous family.
In 2020, he drew attention for a face tattoo that read "Misunderstood," which he later said reflected how he felt judged by the public. On Instagram, he launched a series called "Mental Health Mondays" to share his honest takes on anxiety, depression, and sobriety, and to encourage others to seek help.
Presley shared in late 2024 and 2025 that he was stepping away from social media and modeling to focus on his recovery, saying he wanted to surround himself with a healthier community and return stronger and clearer.
Presley Gerber had a cardiac arrest before his death
As per dispatch recordings obtained by PEOPLE, authorities in Santa Monica received an alert on September 20, 2026, regarding a cardiac arrest on the 1000 block of Berkeley Street at 9:35 in the morning, with a separate emergency communication indicating that crews were being sent for a suspected overdose at the same location.
County medical examiner documents show that Presley Gerber died at a rehabilitation center. On September 21, 2026, the Santa Monica Police Department stated that officers found him unresponsive when they reached the facility.
According to the department, detectives are treating the case as a likely overdose and have noted that nothing so far points to criminal involvement. It was also indicated that the final determination on how and why he died would come from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner and that inquiries were still underway.
Shortly after, the Medical Examiner’s office said the investigation was still in its initial phase and that only minimal details could be shared at that point. Officials added that a post-mortem examination was conducted on Monday, but the ruling on cause and manner had been put on hold pending further tests and analysis.
The officials noted it could not reveal what additional examinations had been ordered because of the active investigation, and mentioned that such deferred cases often take several months to conclude. Earlier that same day, the Medical Examiner’s office informed PEOPLE that the case was under review and that paramedics had confirmed death at 9:45 a.m. on September 20, 2026, with Santa Monica Police leading the law enforcement investigation.
