Prateik Smita Patil Opens Up On Not Inviting His Father, Raj Babbar To His Wedding, 'We Have Not...'

Prateik Smita Patil is a popular actor, who is well-known for his role in the web series, Four More Shots Please. Recently, he appeared in a music video, Ishq Fakir, with his wife, Priya Banerjee. For the unversed, the two tied the knot on February 14, 2025, and their wedding sparked major controversies online as Prateik's father, Raj Babar wasn't invited to it. Recently, the actor opened up about the same.

Prateik Smita Patil reveals the reason behind not inviting his father to his wedding

Recently, Prateik and his wife, Priya sat down for a candid conversation with Miss Malini. The two were promoting their recent music video. However, when Prateik was asked how his wedding and the controversy it generated, the actor shared that not everybody knows the truth behind the bitterness, but someday the world will know. He was quoted as saying:

"People don’t know the truth. Some people from the industry know the truth, some don’t and the general public… But one day, everyone will get to learn the truth. In a story, or a book, or an interview, or a film."

Further, Prateik’s wife, Priya continued and shared that the two have gone through a lot ever since they have fallen in love. Priya explained that she and Prateik have faced multiple tests to prove that they won’t leave each other. She stated that at every problem they stood by each other rather than giving up. In her words:

"I think life has thrown a lot of tests right before we got married, just to see if we would last and we are like ninjas. I think every problem that has come our way, we have not reacted like ‘Ab kya hoga?’. We looked at each other and we got each other."

What happened between Prateik and his father, Raj Babbar?

For the unversed, Prateik is the son of actress, Smita Patil and Raj Babbar. The two first met on the sets of the 1982 film, Bheegi Palkein. At that time, Raj was already married to Nadira Babbar; however, he fell in love with Smita and left his first wife. The two welcomed a son, Prateik. However, Smita Patil passed away at the age of 31 due to complications after the childbirth. 

After Smita Patil's tragic death, Raj Babbar returned to his first wife, Nadira and they went on to have two children, Aarya and Juhi. It is worth mentioning that Raj and his wife accepted Prateik as their son. However, when Prateik became an actor, multiple outlets claimed that he had an emotional distance with his father. In 2025, the rumours intensified, when Prateik decided to drop his father's surname. Regarding the same, he had shared:

"I need to be wholly and solely associated with my mother, her name and her legacy. I don’t think any other name needs to taint that legacy, if you understand what I mean. It needs to just be her name and her legacy. That’s what I’m striving to be. I’m striving to be like my mother and not like my dad. It feels like a new chapter."
