It was on May 13, 2026, when news of Prateek Yadav’s untimely death surfaced in the media. Since then, there have been constant rumours about the cause of his death. And now, amid the tension, Prateek’s love story and messy divorce drama resurface.

Prateek Yadav and Aparna Yadav were school sweethearts

Prateek Yadav and Aparna Yadav’s love story began in school. The duo met at a party through mutual friends and exchanged email addresses. They became friends and stayed connected through conversations via email. In an interview, Aparna revealed that she fell in love with Prateek in grade 10.

The couple was school sweethearts and were head over heels in love with each other. Once Aparna revealed that for the longest time, she didn’t know that Prateek was a veteran politician, Mulayam Singh Yadav’s son and came from an affluent political family. The couple dated for eight long years and got engaged in 2011. 

In the same year, Prateek and Aparna tied the knot in Mulayam Singh Yadav’s ancestral village, Saifai. The wedding was a grand affair, attended by many dignitaries from the political, business, and entertainment worlds. Superstars like Amitabh Bachchan too were part of the wedding rituals. After their wedding, Prateek and Aparna welcomed two daughters, Prathama Yadav and Pratiksha Yadav.

While Prateek stayed out of politics, Aparna began her political journey with her father-in-law's party, contesting the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election from Lucknow Cantonment. However, she frequently heaped praises on the BJP and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In 2022, Aparna joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and currently serves as Vice Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women's Commission. 

Prateek Yadav and Aparna Yadav’s divorce drama

Soon, issues in Prateek and Aparna’s marriage began to surface. Reports of conflicting views between the two began, as per Aparna’s statements and Prateek’s online posts.  In January 2026, Prateek posted on Instagram, accusing Aparna of ruining his relationship with his family. In his post, he also claimed that Aparna only married him for fame and influence. He further accused her of creating distance between him and his family members, including his parents and brother.

In the post, Prateek also revealed his mental health struggles and shared that his health issues hardly mattered to Aparna. In his now-deleted post, Prateek claimed:

"I am going to divorce this selfish woman as soon as possible. She ruined my family ties. All she wants to become is famous and influential... Right now, I am in very bad mental health condition and she doesn’t bother. Because it’s only herself she bothers about."

However, according to reports, the couple reconciled and didn’t file for a divorce. Prateek’s latest posts featuring his wife and daughters also revealed that they were leading a happy family life despite a hiccup in their marriage.

Prateek Yadav’s untimely death

According to reports, Prateek Yadav passed away on the morning of May 13, 2026, at the age of 38. The news came as a shock to the country. Civil Hospital director, Dr GP Gupta, confirmed Prateek's death and said information was received at around 5 am that he was unwell, following which a team of doctors rushed to his residence. According to Gupta, family members initially intended to take the body back home, after which hospital authorities advised that they should send it for a postmortem.
