Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong is facing heavy attention after a heated moment with a fan during Sunday’s loss against the White Sox went viral online. The incident happened during the fifth inning at Rate Field when Crow-Armstrong failed to stop a two-run double hit by Miguel Vargas. As he got up near the wall, a woman behind the fence shouted at him. Frustrated after the play, the Cubs star yelled back with vulgar words that were later caught on video and spread across social media. One day later, Pete Crow-Armstrong admitted he regretted the language he used and said he felt bad knowing young fans could also see the clip online.
The exchange quickly became one of the most talked-about baseball moments on social media after videos from the crowd started circulating online. Fans could clearly hear the woman yelling at Pete Crow-Armstrong while giving him a thumbs-down gesture near the outfield fence. The Cubs outfielder spoke to reporters on Monday and admitted his reaction crossed the line. Pete Crow-Armstrong later admitted he regretted the language he used during the emotional moment.

Pete said he felt disappointed about the words he chose because they could affect people close to him, especially the women in his life and younger fans who may see the viral clip online. The 24-year-old also shared that players must always remember cameras are following them during games, especially in emotional situations. The clip spread online within hours after the Cubs lost 9-8 to the White Sox in the crosstown rivalry game.

Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell confirmed he had already spoken with Pete Crow-Armstrong after the game. Counsell said emotional moments with fans are part of professional sports, but players still have to stay under control even when situations become frustrating. “He made a mistake, and we’ve got to move on from it,” Craig Counsell told reporters before Chicago opened its series against Milwaukee. Pete Crow-Armstrong has become one of the Cubs’ biggest young stars over the last two seasons.

Last year, he hit .247 with 31 home runs and 95 RBIs while also winning his first Gold Glove award for his defence in centre field. The former first-round draft pick signed a six-year, USD 115 million contract extension with Chicago in March. The viral moment came during a difficult game for the Cubs, but the reaction online became even bigger because of Crow-Armstrong’s growing popularity around baseball.
