His parents, Johann Sinner and Siglinde Sinner, both worked at a ski lodge called Talschlusshutte Hut in Sexten, Italy. Johann worked as a chef, while Siglinde worked as a waitress before later focusing more on family life. Because of where he grew up, skiing became a big part of Jannik’s childhood. In fact, he was a very talented skier at a young age. By the time he was 8 years old, he had already become a national runner-up in giant slalom skiing. 

Tennis was not even his main sport in the beginning. Still, his parents never tried to control his future. When Jannik decided to leave skiing behind and focus only on tennis at 13 years old, Johann and Siglinde supported him fully. That freedom meant everything to him. After winning the 2024 Australian Open, Jannik spoke emotionally about his parents during his press conference. He said he felt lucky to have parents who always gave him the freedom to make his own choices. 

Jannik also shared that even when he was younger and trying different sports, Johann and Siglinde Sinner never pressured him or forced him into one path. That support helped him grow not just as a player, but also as a person. Instead of forcing strict rules on him, his parents trusted him to make his own decisions. Jannik Sinner moved away at 14, while Johann Sinner stayed close on tour

At just 14 years old, Jannik made one of the biggest decisions of his life. He left home and moved to Bordighera on the Italian Riviera to train at the Piatti Tennis Center. It was a huge step for someone so young. Life away from home was not easy in the beginning. Jannik had to learn how to cook, clean, and take care of himself while also training every day. But even during that difficult period, his parents continued supporting him from a distance.

After his Australian Open victory in 2024, Jannik explained how hard that moment was for the whole family. Even today, Johann and Siglinde try to stay close to their son whenever possible. Johann has sometimes joined Jannik on tour as a personal chef during tournaments. During the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells in 2023, Jannik said it was special to have his father around. Jannik said having his father around during tournaments meant more than just good food. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially while handling pressure and constant travel on tour.

After his breakthrough Australian Open title run in 2024, where he defeated Novak Djokovic in the semifinals and Daniil Medvedev in the final, Jannik spoke honestly about his parents’ work ethic. He said: 

“My parents, they are special. When I got back from school, my parents were not there. They were working.” 

He explained that watching his parents work hard every single day taught him an important lesson very early in life. Jannik said their work ethic shaped his mindset and helped him understand that success only comes through hard work and dedication. Johann and Siglinde also do not travel to every tournament because they prefer staying close to family members in Italy. In 2024, Jannik explained that his grandparents were getting older, and his parents wanted to spend time with them at home.

Still, they have shared some unforgettable moments with their son recently. They attended the 2025 French Open final, where Jannik lost a heartbreaking five-set match against, Carlos Alcaraz. Cameras often showed Siglinde’s emotional reactions during the long match, and many fans online connected with her feelings. Just one month later, the family finally celebrated together again when Jannik defeated Carlos Alcaraz to win the Wimbledon 2025 title. It became another proud moment for Johann and Siglinde, who have supported their son quietly from the very beginning.
