American YouTuber Perez Hilton recently sparked concern after allegedly harming himself during a livestream on August 4, 2026. The broadcast featured him in an injured state as he apparently cut himself with a knife and was hospitalized. As per his family, he is currently on a healing journey both physically and mentally. Amid that, his previous targeted comments regarding celebrities have resurfaced.

Amid Perez's controversies, his alleged outing of Neil Patrick Harris has come under focus due to the latter recently opening up about how he was forced to admit publicly that he is gay. Notably, just days before Perez's hospitalization, he revealed that he was remorseful for his act and tried to make amends with the actor.

Perez Hilton reached out to Neil Patrick Harris years after allegedly outing him against his wishes

How I Met Your Mother fame Neil Patrick Harris is openly gap and lives a happy life with his husband, David Burtka. The society now is quite progressive and accepting of people with different sexual orientations. However, things were not so simple in the 2000s. Patrick, who was basking in the success of How I Met Your Mother, was pressured to publicly out as gay in November 2006 after gossip bloggers like Perez Hilton wrote about it and discussed it continuously.

As Neil recalled in a recent conversation on Fox News' Hang Out With Sean Hannity podcast, Perez Hilton's comment after regretting outing celebs like him came into focus. Just days before his hospitalization, Perez Hilton shared in an interview on the same podcast that he reached out to Neil to apologize and make amends for his actions.

While talking about celebrities like Britney Spears, Neil Patrick Harris and Jennifer Aniston, whom Perez has verbally attacked, he regretfully stated, "I live with that, you know. Like I've made amends or tried to with a lot of people." Perez Hilton was most remorseful about outing gay celebrities, when he, as an openly gay man himself, should have been more empathetic to them. Perez shared that he was not happy in his present life because his past "mistakes" still haunt him.

Talking about Neil Patrick Harris, Perez mentioned he reached out to the 53-year-old actor and apologized for his constant jabs at him and comments about him being a closeted gay man. Sharing Neil's reaction, Perez stated that he was "very gracious" towards the YouTuber and even asked him to write something in the memoir of the How I Met Your Mother star. Perez Hilton's exact words were:

"That's why it's hard being me now, because I would say a lot of gay men, most probably don't like me because of a lot of the mistakes I made in my past that are very public...I made amends with him [Neil Patrick Harris], and he asked me to write something in his memoir. So I wrote a little something in there, and he was very, very gracious."

Perez Hilton admitted his past acts were 'cheap' and 'cruel'

In the same conversation, Perez Hilton revealed that his past jabs and comments regarding celebrities' physical appearance, sexual orientation and other affairs were extremely offensive. He mentioned realizing his wrongdoings years after the incidents. Perez now knows that he can be funny without mocking someone. He revealed that what he did back then was purely for attention-seeking. Admitting that his past acts were "cheap" and "cruel", he stated:

"Because I realized what I was doing was wrong. I realized I could still be funny, but I didn't have to be so cheap, and I didn't have to be so cruel. It was cruel. It's something that I carry with me. It's like my scarlet letter, and it's very heavy baggage."
