Shoaib Malik, an all-rounder cricket player, is one of the renowned names from Pakistan. He was born in Sialkot and partly grew up in Karachi. During his childhood, he was more inclined towards hockey than cricket. However, Shoaib Malik’s father, Malik Faqueer Hussain, was very keen to make his son a world-class athlete, especially a cricketer. At present, he is one of the best cricket players in the world, having many accolades to his name.
Shoaib Malik is not just known for his immensely successful cricketing career, but also for his marriage to ace Indian tennis player, Sania Mirza as well. The two celebrated their traditional Muslim wedding ceremony in Hyderabad, India, followed by Pakistani wedding rituals in Shoaib's hometown, Sialkot, Pakistan. The couple's lavish wedding received widespread media attention across the globe. They announced their first pregnancy in 2018 and welcomed their boy, Izhaan, on October 30, 2018.
Recently, Shoaib Malik appeared on Fakhr e Alam’s show, AIK AUR CUP, where he shared previously unheard-of details about his professional journey. He revealed that his father always wanted him to be associated with sports. On the other hand, his elder sisters wanted Shoaib to continue his studies. Despite this, his father always supported him, and he worked hard to make his father’s dream come true. He further adds:
“Uss waqt aisa time tha ki aap ek cheez choose kar sakte the, ya aap studies choose kar sakte the ya sports kar sakte the. Bas wo iss taraf aaya. Maare bhi khayi badi sister se. Wo maaro se ek cheez acchi huyi ki ye pata tha ki bade ki izzat karni hai, beshak chota bhi ho uski bhi karni hai, kisi ka dil nahi dukhana hai.”
Shoaib Malik further revealed that he used to hide his cricket kit inside his school bag so that his sisters wouldn’t get to know about it. He even said that his father used to be his accomplice in all this. However, Shoaib credits his success to his sisters, who always encouraged him to study more. He even had tears in his eyes when he revealed that they were doing jobs to support the family since they were not financially stable then, they never let Shoaib's education suffer and always pushed him towards his goals. He said:
“Meri jo dono badi behenein hai wo job karti thi aur unhone ghar ke liye bohot kiya. Agar wo nahi hoti toh main cricket nahi khel sakta tha.”
During the last few minutes of the interview, the host asked Shoaib Malik if he missed his son, Izhaan, as he travels a lot around the world due to his work commitments. To which, the Pakistani cricketer promptly replies, ‘I miss him a lot’. For the unversed, there are reports which suggest that he and Sania Mirza might have gotten divorced and are co-parenting their only son. He further added:
“I make sure I video call him every day. It’s very hard for him to sit in one place. Ye ek aisi age hai bacche ki jahan usko games khelni hai but he’s an intelligent kid and makes sure ki jo usko baat karni hai, you stick around that conversation, to woh phir aapse baat karta hai. Abhi jab main yahan aa raha tha for The Pavillion tab I had to explain to him why ‘Baba is going to Pakistan.’”
The host further asked the Pakistani cricketer, Shoaib Malik, that his father always pushed him to play cricket no matter the situation, so what is that one thing he pushes his son, Izhaan, towards? Shoaib replied, “Never give up in life”.
