Pahlaj Nihalani Reveals Divya Bharti Refused To Become Chunky Panday's Heroine, 'Threw Big Tantrum'

Divya Om Prakash Bharti was one of the most beautiful actresses in the entertainment industry. She has etched a special place in millions of hearts with her innocent looks, beautiful face, and pretty eyes. Divya started her acting career with the Telugu movie, Bobbili Raja in 1990. Afterwards, Divya made her Bollywood debut with the film, Vishwatma, in 1992. Following this, she worked in some more hit films like Shola Aur Shabnam and Deewana. However, it was on April 5, 1993, at the tender age of 19, when Divya left for her heavenly abode, leaving a hole in the hearts of her millions of fans.

Pahlaj Nihalani reveals he asked Divya Bharti to lose some weight before signing her

Now, popular film producer, Pahlaj Nihalani made some shocking revelations about the late actress, Divya Bharti. In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Pahlaj revealed that Divya had approached him via her secretary. However, looking at her pictures, he felt that the actress was not in perfect shape, thus, he asked her to lose weight. Meanwhile, they started shooting the film, Shola Aur Shabnam. He said:

“We hadn’t started shooting the film (Shola Aur Shabnam) yet, and she approached me via a secretary. I saw her pictures and felt she looked a little plump. I told the secretary that she must lose weight before starting work. In the meantime, we started shooting.”

Further, in the same conversation, Pahlaj revealed that Divya joined the film, Shola Aur Shabnam when only around five days were left. However, soon after his first encounter with Divya, he eventually roped her in for the film opposite Govinda. He added:

“This was the first time I met her in person, and I liked what I saw. She immediately signed many films after that.”

Pahlaj Nihalani mentions how Divya Bharti refused to be Chunky Panday's heroine

In the same conversation, Pahlaj was asked if Divya was also supposed to do his 1993 movie, Aankhen with him. To this, the producer recalled that Divya had signed the movie earlier. But when she learned about being cast opposite Chunky Panday, she refused to be the actor's heroine. Taking about the same, Pahlaj mentioned:

"Yes, Divya, Pooja Bhatt and Juhi Chawla were supposed to do the film originally. I decided that Divya should be paired with Chunky and Ritu Shivpuri should be opposite Govinda. When David told her this, she was hassled. She called me up, and began threatening to do things. She threw a big tantrum, and summoned me. I went to meet her, and she said, ‘I’ve heard that I’m opposite Chunky?’ I said yes. She refused to do the film.”
