After the kids, the identity of the first-time teacher, 25-year-old Megan Lambert, has surfaced on the internet. In turn, it has reminded people how the tragedy did not just claim four lives, but also dreams, hopes, and a bright future for some of the country's youth.
Who was Megan Lambert?
According to Bend city officials, Megan Lambert was one of the victims in the Oregon elementary school firing incident. Her family shared that Megan was a first-time teacher at the Silver Rail Elementary School. In fact, it was a dream-come-true role and position for her. Megan was a native of Central Oregon and grew up in Bend. Eventually, she graduated from Boise State University. They also revealed that she was teaching special education at the school when the tragedy took place.
Later, her loved ones remembered her as someone who was "compassionate" with a huge heart. Outside of teaching, Megan was passionate about sports, especially volleyball, as a coach. According to her family, she had once refused payment for her first season as a volleyball coach.
The 25-year-old made the special gesture to ensure that children whose families cannot afford the fees could still participate in it. Her family also mentioned that she always stood up for people who were overlooked, like those with special needs.

They also described her as a loving daughter, sister, niece and granddaughter who was funny, outspoken and capable of lighting up a room. Her death has left her family and community mourning a young teacher whose career had only just begun.
Apart from Megan, three young boys, aged 5, 8 and 11, were also killed during the attack. Moreover, the youngest 5-year-old victim was later identified as Rhoam Summer by his father, Kelik Summer. His father had confirmed his identity through a Facebook post, which left people emotional.
Kelik described that his family is "heartbroken and lost" after the death of their young son. In fact, Rhoam's grandfather, Bryan Jolly, also recalled the little one as a bright, mischievous, and fun-loving child. Later, a GoFundMe campaign was started to support the family as they take time to grieve.
However, the names of the 8-year-old and 11-year-old victims have not been publicly released in the reports. Their families have intentionally withheld their identities out of respect for the families' privacy. Apart from those deceased, a 54-year-old teacher, Becky Dury, and a 7-year-old student were injured.
Some news reports mentioned that Becky tried to distract the gunman by throwing her phone at him before trying to overpower him. Meanwhile, the student was shot in the face and underwent surgery for the same. His condition is reportedly serious but stable.
For those who don't know, the shooting took place before 1 p.m. on October 15, 2026. According to the official reports, a 16-year-old gunman came into the school with a shotgun. He went directly into a special education classroom, where he opened fire. In turn, he killed three children and Megan.
Moreover, two were left wounded. Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old father whose daughters attend the school, stepped in. He reportedly followed the gunman inside and shot him, which ended the attack. Later, police came after the first emergency call and found the shooter dead.
Who was the gunman, and why did he attack?
After the incident, the shooter was identified as a 16-year-old Griffin J. John II. He was a former special education student at Silver Rail Elementary School. But the school officials revealed that he was not enrolled in the Bend-La Pine school district when the incident took place. However, the investigators have not confirmed any motive for the attack. Police are still looking for the teenager's background and personal records to understand what motivated him to take such a drastic step.
