The morning of October 15, 2026, began like any normal day, but soon the situation inside the Oregon elementary school turned serious. According to reports, a 16-year-old crazy teen entered Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend and opened fire, killing three students and a teacher. However, a heroic bystander came to the scene in time and ended the crazy teen’s deadly mass shooting. Now, a radio dispatch audio recording revealed that the bystander is believed to be a student’s dad.
While the other details of the heroic bystander are yet to be revealed, reports state the student’s dad rushed into Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend as soon as he saw the 16-year-old gunman storm in just after 1 p.m. on October 15, 2026, and killed him after he gunned down three young kids and a teacher. Emergency dispatchers said in an audio shared on Broadcastify that the shooter had been neutralized. They revealed:
"Looks like the shooter has been neutralized – possibly shot by a father at the school. Not sure about patients at this time. The police are arriving."
Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz confirmed that the deadly mass shooting was ended by a community member who had seen the suspect enter the school, pursued him into the school, and took him down. Later, the officers entered the school building and confirmed the crazy teen shooter was dead. Before heading towards the school, the teen shooter was confronted by a Toyota Tacoma driver in the parking lot.
The 16-year-old accused fired several shots, shattering the rear window and leaving many bullet holes in it. After that, the crazy teen fired at the locks on the school's doors to get inside. The harrowing incident also left a student, aged 7, and a teacher, aged 54, critical in hospital. According to the Associated Press, the 16-year-old gunman used a pump-action shotgun that his mother had bought.
Kathy Sheil Smith, a fifth-grade teacher, was one of the many who praised the bystander’s heroism. Speaking to KPTV, Kathy said that the person noticed what was happening and took action instead of standing by and doing nothing. She lauded the person's courage and felt grateful that the heroic bystander managed to stop and capture the suspected shooter. Kathy said:
"That person saw something. They did something, and that took its own courage. I’m just grateful that that person was able to apprehend the suspect."

The grave incident left many teachers traumatized. A teacher named Sheil Smith moved her fifth graders to the corner of her classroom. She revealed that teachers feared for their lives. She said:
"I’m sure that every teacher at the school thought today is the day that I am going to die. Save my kids."
During a press conference, Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said the police received the first emergency 911 call at 12:59 p.m. The caller was inside a vehicle when a gunman opened fire at the students and the teachers. Soon after that, the police received many more emergency calls reporting that the shooter had entered the school.
