Suchi Purja and Nims Purja were the type of couple people look up to. The duo's love and mutual respect were enviable. She was very supportive of her husband's thrilling yet dangerous mountaineering ventures, and he never shied away from crediting her for it. Nims' better half came under the spotlight after appearing in Netflix's 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible alongside him. The documentary follows Nims Purja's historic mission to climb all 14 mountains above 8,000 meters in a record time of seven months.
In the doc film, Suchi Purja admitted that her now-late husband had a "crazy" goal of climbing 14 peaks in such a short time. However, she, as his spouse, wasn't really surprised by it. Suchi had been a witness to Nims' career transition from a Gurkha soldier to a mountaineering hero so she was definitely unfazed by the fact that the Nepalese-British lad was trying to make the impossible possible. Sharing her reaction to Nims Purja's last and unfinished venture, known as Project Possible, Suchi stated:
"[Project Possible] is a crazy idea, but it wasn't a surprise to me."
Talking about Nims and Suchi Purja's personal life, they were reportedly married for about a decade. They are also parents to a baby girl, named Himani Purja, who was born around 2022-23. While the couple never introduced the world to their child, they announced that they were expecting their first baby in June 2022. The couple shared pictures from the maternity shoot on Instagram. The mesmerizing pictures were taken by photographer Sophie Wheeler, who wrote:
"A huge congratulations to @nimsdai and @suchipurja who have just announced their pregnancy this morning. An absolute honor for me to capture these photos for you! Beyond beautiful!"
Nims and Suchi didn't share any updates after the birth of their little one, keeping her date of birth and other specifics private. They chose to keep their personal life and their kid away from the spotlight. Nims Purja occasionally shares family moments on his official Instagram, but both parents rarely speak publicly about their daughter.
How did Nims Purja die?
Nims Purja's final mountaineering venture, Broad Peak, was unplanned. He and his team were initially set to climb only Gasherbrum II, but he realized that summiting Broad Peak would leave him with just Cho Oyu remaining to become the first person to climb all 14 eight-thousanders twice without oxygen. The expedition ended in tragedy when a powerful avalanche struck the team at around 7,000 meters on Broad Peak.
Elite Exped, the expedition company he co-founded, confirmed on Saturday, August 1, 2026, that Purja and other members of the 10-person expedition had lost their lives in the disaster. The organization described Nirmal as "one of mountaineering's greatest climbers" and a leader who "inspired millions through his courage, humility and unwavering belief that human potential is far greater than we often imagine."
