Nicki Minaj took 'illegal injection' after Lil Wayne and others made jokes about her 'flat butt'
Among other surgeries, Nicki Minaj confessed to getting 'ass shots'. In 2022, while speaking to Joe Budden, Nicki shared that she had an illegal butt injection, and that, too, not from a doctor or someone with a license, but from a 'random person' without a license to practice legally. While Nicki had to face scrutiny about the same, she had her reasons to opt for the illegal injection, and the reason was her insecurity and a few jokes, which were not funny to her.

In the same 2022 interview, Nicki revealed that she thought she didn't look like the other girls in her culture early in her career. She was in Atlanta during that time, and Lil Wayne's muses were girls with 'big booties'. According to Nicki, some jokes that were made about her, she didn't find them funny, but it mattered to her, since they came from someone like Lil Wayne, and she was then only an up-and-coming rapper.
Nicki also said that others didn't know she was insecure about it, and that the jokes weren't meant to harm her, but they weren't a 'joke' to her. The rapper, however, clarified that she 'never had surgery, but ass shots'. Speaking about her feelings, Nicki Minaj said:
"I think they said stuff sometimes jokingly. But to a young girl or up-and-coming rapper … when it’s from someone like Lil Wayne it matters. So even if they’re joking they don’t know that the person … is not finding it funny. They’re just joking. They didn’t mean any harm. But it wasn’t a joke to me".
Nicki Minaj's perception of beauty changed after becoming a mum
In 2023, in an episode of The Run-Through with Vogue podcast, Nicki Minaj said she didn't like looking at her old photos because she didn't like how she looked. She shared that she didn't "like being skinny, having a flat butt. Having boobs that didn’t sit high enough."

However, over the years, her perception changed. The rapper feels that being a mum actually led her back to her true self, and she eventually became able to look at her old photos and even consider them 'beautiful', too. Nicki welcomed her baby boy with Kenneth Petty in 2020, and speaking about how it changed her perception of herself, she said:
"I think pregnancy could’ve played a role because seeing my son did remind me of myself so much. My real self. And it made me think why didn’t I like this? So weird. But seeing old photos, being able to look at old photos again made me realize, ‘These old photos are beautiful.’”
