The photo scandal involving New England Patriots head coach, Mike Vrabel and former NFL insider, Dianna Russini, has been making headlines for a long time now. The fiasco started in April 2026, when Page Six released some cosy pictures of Mike and Dianna. Amid this, Dianna resigned from The Athletic, but Mike has not stepped down from his position at the Patriots. Now, NFL insider, John McClain, shared his take on why the Patriots owner, Robert Kraft, will not fire Mike even after the scandal.
In a recent episode of podcast, Outkick Hot Mic, NFL insider, John McClain shared his take on the ongoing off-field drama involving the New England Patriots head coach, Mike Vrabel. While Mike has been facing extreme backlash and his past decisions are being analysed through a different lens, according to John, his position remains strong.

As per NFL fan theories, the owner of the New England Patriots, Robert Kraft, will eventually fire Mike. But John holds a different thought. He mentioned that Mike’s future is not at risk, as fans and media love him. John added that the main reason why Robert will not fire Mike is football success. In his words:
"His future’s not in jeopardy. What’s going to happen? Is Robert Kraft going to fire him for morals? I don’t think so. And the fans love him, the media loves him. He did a great coaching job last season."

In January 2026, the Patriots' owner, Robert Kraft, appeared on ESPN’s Sunday NFL countdown and praised Mike Vrabel for his strong leadership. Just before a playoff match, Robert highlighted that Mike has transformed the team’s fortunes in his first season, making a 14-3 record. The Patriots' owner seemed totally impressed by Mike’s leadership and didn’t regret hiring him as the head coach. Robert was quoted as saying:
"Think what our record was last year, and it’s reversed this year. He has grown and matured in a way — he always had that hard side to him, which made him such a great player. But he’s been amazing with the culture in the locker room, how he has been able to connect. It’s the hardest thing with a team to get everyone to put team first and their own personal records in the background. He’s done that, and they really feel connected to him."

On April 21, 2026, Mike Vrabel broke his silence on the ongoing off-field drama. During a Patriots press conference, Mike shared that he delayed speaking on the following matter as he wanted to sort things first with his family and team members. He revealed that on April 20, 2026, he had a heart-to-heart, honest confession with his players as well. Following this, a few players, including Hunter Henry and Drake Maye, came forward and shared their take on the following matter.

Hunter said, "I thought he did a great job. You know, it’s been the same Vrabes bringing a lot of energy into the room. So, yeah, I mean, obviously he addressed it and, you know, that’s kind of what I’ll say about it." Drake also expressed his love and respect for their coach, Mike. Sharing his support, he told WHDH-TV 7News in Boston:
"We’re here for Coach, we love Coach. What he does for us, what he’s done for us this past year, you can’t speak into words. Thankful he’s our head coach. Know he’s dealing with some off the field and out of the coaching world, but we’re here for him, and I know he’s gonna come back."
