The viewers have been waiting for the third instalment of the much-loved prequel to Game of Thrones for a while now. So, as fans rush to watch the show, here's everything you need to know about the new characters joining House of the Dragon in Season 3 and the actors portraying them.
According to previous reports, James was cast as 'Lord of Oldtown, Ormund Hightower', the cousin of 'Alicent' and 'Gawyne'. The description of his character states that he is "presently leading the Hightower host in a march on King's Landing to support his house against 'Rhaenyra'". The showrunner, Ryan Condal, linked 'Ormund' to "the Tywin Lannister of this world," referencing Charles Dance's iconic villain from Game of Thrones. However, because 'Ormund' is just a 'sketch' in George R.R. Martin's books, Ryan got to create, "a really deep, complex and three-dimensional character out of him that introduces a new kind of complication into the world."

In March 2025, reports revealed that Tommy Flanagan would be part of House of the Dragon Season 3. His character goes by the eerie nickname "Roddy the Ruin" and is the Lord of Barrowton and the head of House Dustin in the north. 'Sir Dustin' has been alleged to be a "fan-favourite character" from Fire & Blood and a "battle-scarred leader of the Winter Wolves."

Dan Fogler's casting was announced at the same time as Tommy Flanagan, with reports revealing that the former would play 'Ser Torrhen Manderly'. While not much has been revealed about his character, other than the fact that he is "a sharp and charismatic knight of northern House Manderly" in Fire & Blood and is the second son of Lord of White Harbour, 'Desmond Manderly'.

In April 2025, the makers announced that Tom Cullen will join House of the Dragon Season 3 as 'Ser Luthor Largent', and we could not keep our calm. Though he's a lowborn knight in the City Watch who supposedly killed a "warhorse with a singular punch in Fire & Blood", per Entertainment Weekly, the actor described his character as "the head of the gold cloaks and a good friend of Daemon (Smith)" in a June 2025 interview with Country & Town House.

Joplin Sibtain's role in House of the Dragon Season 3 was announced in 2025 as well. The report revealed that the actor will essay the role of 'Ser "Bold" Jon Roxton, a knight and the head of House of Roxton. Entertainment Weekly described the character as, "Ser Roxton is best recognised for wielding a Valyrian steel sword brutally nicknamed the 'Orphan-maker' in Fire & Blood."

Another new character in House of the Dragon Season 3 is 'Ser Adrian Redfort', essayed by Barry Sloane. Not much has been shared about his character. However, some reports assert that he is a knight of House Redfort who fights for 'Queen Rhaenyra.'
Last but definitely not least, Annie Shapero was added to House of the Dragon Season 3 in July 2025 for the role of 'Martin's' fiercest female fighters, 'Alysanne Blackwood'. She will play the role of 'Lord Benjicot Blackwood's' aunt and had a major role in Fire & Blood. The actress reflected on her role in an interview with Numero Netherlands and said:
"Black Aly is the kind of person we all wish we could be for about ten minutes a day. She's fiercely loyal, she's capable, and she trusts her own instincts. There's something really satisfying about watching someone move through the world with that kind of certainty, especially in a world as chaotic as Westeros."
