Zendaya's Whitewashed Pictures During 'Dune 2' Promotions Bring In Criticism For South Korean Media

Hollywood superstars and Dune 2 star cast, Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet, and Austin Butler are currently in Seoul, South Korea, to promote their upcoming movie. The K-netizens and media were delighted to host the megastars and were very hospitable to them, but soon, the netizens noticed certain stereotypical behaviour of the K-media, which the onlookers condemned. For the unversed, South Korea have stringent beauty standards and does not accept anything outside of their set notion, and Zendaya’s skin colour does not fit their beauty expectations.

Zendaya is an American actress and comes from a family of colour. Her father is an African American, and her mother is white. Zendaya has a beautiful chocolate skin tone and never tries to whitewash it by any means. So, gauge the horror of her fans when they noticed that K-media edited her pictures so that Zendaya looks pale and extremely white.

South Korean media whitewashes Zendaya’s pictures

Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet, and Austin Butler travelled to South Korea to promote their film, Dune 2. The star cast attended several public meetings and even interacted with their fans. For the events, Zendaya was dressed in a pink-hued co-ord set with silver zipper details. She amped up her OOTD with neutral glam and curled-up tresses. Along with her, Chalamet was decked in a baby-blue-hued co-ord with silver linings. As for Austin Butler, the hunk opted for a dark blue blazer look and a grey shirt.

The trio had a gala time with the K-netizens and even made their signature hand-heart for them. After the photos of the event were released, Netizens noticed that Zendaya looked extremely pale and even whiter than Timothe Chalamet, a native American. Korean media has a history of whitewashing their celebrities, so this did not come as a surprise, but at the same time, the whitewashing of a person of color was disappointing.
