Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie is a highly anticipated series for 2026. The upcoming series is based on the classic books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The new series is once again bringing back the magic of 'Laura Ingalls', who is the heart of the 'Ingalls' family. The classic TV series was loosely based on Laura's famous books, but this reboot will feature modern storytelling while staying faithful to the author’s creation.

Meet the cast of Netflix series, Little House on the Prairie

Netflix series, Little House on the Prairie features an ensemble cast. Young actress, Alice Halsey has stepped into the shoes of the main character, 'Laura Ingalls'. Australian actor, Luke Bracey will play the role of 'Laura's' father, 'Charles Ingalls' and actress, Crosby Fitzgerald will portray 'Laura's' mother, 'Caroline Ingalls.' Canadian child actor, Skywalker Hughes, as 'Laura's' elder sister, 'Mary Ingalls'.

Season 1 will also feature some new characters whom the 'Ingalls' family will meet after they move from Wisconsin to Kansas. The Independence settlers, Warren Christie as 'John Edwards', Jocko Sims as 'Dr. George Tann', and Barrett Dos as 'Emily Henderson' will appear in this season. Meegun Fairbrother as 'William Mitchell', Alyssa Wapanatahk as 'White Sun', and Wren Zhawenim Gotts as 'Good Eagle' will be portraying the Osage people in the series.

What makes the Netflix series, Little House on the Prairie different from the original series?

Unlike the classic TV series from the 1970s and 1980s, this reboot focuses on bringing modern storytelling while staying faithful to Laura Ingalls Wilder’s creation. According to a report by Netflix’s TUDUM, the new series is inspired by the third Little House book in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s semi-autobiographical series. The upcoming reboot series not only follows the 'Ingalls' family but also on the realities of frontier survival and diverse people who lived in the American West.

Netflix series, Little House on the Prairie Season 1 follows the 'Ingalls' family who are moving from Wisconsin to Kansas. The family is leaving their safe and comfortable home in Wisconsin and travelling by wagon to Kansas in search of a better living. They hope to build a new house in the prairie, but life is not that easy. As the family is about to settle down, they must deal with harsh weather conditions, limited supplies and the challenges of living in an unfamiliar place.

As the 'Ingalls' family settles near the town of Independence, Kansas, they meet new people. The reboot series also tells the stories of the Osage Nation, the Native American people who survived in this prairie long before the settlers arrived. This new thing will give the audience a broader view of life on the American frontier. 

Is Little House on the Prairie renewed for Season 2?

Fans of the franchise, Little House on the Prairie rejoice. Before Little House on the Prairie Season 1 premiere, Netflix has already renewed it for Season 2. For the uninitiated, Season 1 is set to premiere on July 9, 2026. Little House on the Prairie Season 1 will consist of eight episodes. Speaking about the renewal, Netflix’s head of US and Canada scripted series, Jinny Howe, told Netflix’s TUDUM:

"We are delighted to renew this beautiful reimagining of Little House on the Prairie for a second season ahead of its Netflix debut. The exceptional work by Rebecca Sonnenshine and the entire cast and crew on Season 1 has established a rich foundation of storytelling for years to come. With its hopeful spirit and emotional authenticity, we’re confident that Little House will deliver even more of what fans truly love."
