A mother’s life takes a complete U-turn when she gets the news of her pregnancy. Neena Gupta's life was never a bed of roses and has always been a roller coaster ride. Neena, who has always been ahead of her times is a true exemplar of women empowerment. She has always been an inspiration to many with her liberal thoughts. From having an affair with actor, Alok Nath to her wedding with Shaarangdev, son of Indian classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj being called off, Neena’s personal life saw many ups and downs. After the heartbreak, when Neena had met West Indies cricket team captain, Vivian Richards, he was already a married man. Neena had fallen madly in love with him and had given birth to his daughter, Masaba Gupta. It was in 2008 when Neena had married Delhi-based Chartered Accountant, Vivek Mishra.
Neena, who has brilliantly raised her daughter, the ace fashion designer, Masaba Gupta is an inspiration to all the single mothers. In an interview with the Mumbai Mirror, Neena had talked about her regret of having a child out of wedlock. She revealed, “I would not have a child outside marriage. Every child needs both parents. I was always honest with Masaba, so it did not affect our relationship, but I know she suffered.”
Neena Gupta recently gave an interview to film critic, Rajeev Masand and Neena ji spoke candidly about her daughter, Masaba. Commenting on her choice of depriving Masaba of her father and a normal family, Neena Gupta said it was selfish on her part. She was quoted as saying, "Very much. All the time. I feel it was a very selfish act on my part. Some of my friends told me it won’t be fair on part of the child, but kaun sunnta hai uss waqat, blind hotey hain (who listens at that age, people are blind). I also feel sad because she was lonely. Masaba Gupta had tied the knot with producer Madhu Mantena in 2015 and in March 2019, the duo got divorced due to reasons best known to them. Masaba Gupta and Madhu Mantena had released an official statement confirming their divorce, which could be read as, “After much thought and consideration, we have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters. We have decided to move forward separately and get divorced. We are two individuals who respect and care for each other and have made our own choices. We would appreciate if we are given our privacy at this time.”
In an interaction with Rajeev Masand for his chat show, Women We Love, Neena ji had talked about her daughter’s divorce and had stated, “Like a normal mother, I said don't take any decision in a rush. Think about it because me and my husband both loved Madhu and still love him. He's a very nice man and we still love him. But... nahi bana toh nahi bana...Humne bola socho isko, aisa nahi hai ki immediate decision liya, they thought about it.
