NASCAR has lost yet another legend. For those unaware, Ned Jarrett, who was one of the most well-respected drivers, has passed away at the age of 93. The news of Ned's tragic passing was revealed on Friday, June 5, 2026, by his family.
As we mentioned, it was Ned Jarrett's family who announced the news of his death. They revealed that the former NASCAR driver had passed away at his home in Newton, North Carolina, on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the age of 93. He had reportedly passed away peacefully from natural causes. In a statement that the family shared with Fox Sports reporter, Bob Jarett, they recalled Ned as a loving father, a devoted Christian, and a friend to all those he met. They said:
"Our father was a devout Christian and a devoted, loving family man. He was a friend to everyone he met and NASCAR's oldest living champion. By all accounts, he was a true NASCAR legend. While we mourn his passing, we celebrate the remarkable life of an amazing man and truly the best father anyone could have wished for. Rest in Peace, Dad."

For most NASCAR fans, the news of Ned Jarrett's death marks the loss of a man who had played a significant role in helping shape the sport both on and off the track. While he was a successful driver, he was also a trusted voice in the field of racing after his career ended. With fans across generations, they have now taken to social media to react to Ned's death.

For instance, one user wrote, “He died at a ripe age. May God accept his soul and comfort his loved ones.” Another wrote, “A true gentleman of the sport and an absolute racing icon. 93 years of a life incredibly well-lived. Sending so much love and prayers to the Jarrett family. Rest in peace, legend.” A third user penned, “A true legend of the sport who paved the way for so many, 'Gentleman Ned' will be deeply missed by the entire racing community.”

Another comment read, “RIP to NASCAR legend Ned Jarrett. 93 years young and a true Hall of Famer. Gentleman Ned paved the way for so many. Respect to the family.” A fan wrote, “What a great Godly man. His driving and two championships pale in comparison to how he lived his life and it was heard through every broadcast! I know without a doubt his family is so proud of him. Fans had dubbed Ned Jarrett as “Gentleman Net,” owing to his calm personality and sportsmanship. Over the years, he had established himself as one of the greatest NASCAR drivers, having won two NASCAR Grand National Series championships. Even after he stepped away from racing, he stayed close to the sport by working as a pit-road reporter. In later years, Net Jarrett also became a popular television and radio broadcaster. He was famous for hosting Ned Jerett's World of Racing, a daily radio news program.

In his personal life, Ned Jarrett was married to Martha Jarrett, with whom he shared two sons, Glenn Jarrett and Dale Jarrett. Both of his sons had followed in their father's footsteps and into the world of racing. To date, many fans remember Ned Jarrett's emotional call of Dale Jarrett's win during the Daytona 500 as a memorable moment in NASCAR broadcasting.
