Nayyi Navelli teaser shows Yami Gautam in an all-new light
The teaser for Yami Gautam's upcoming film Nayyi Navelli was released on September 10, 2026. Directed by Balaji Mohan and produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma, the film appears to be an immersive experience, blending family drama, horror-comedy, and elements of Indian folklore. The film is slated for release on October 16, 2026, in theatres across India.
The Nayyi Navelli teaser opens with a family member making a rather serious accusation against Yami Gautam's character. He gathers the family and then claims, "Bhabhi dayan hai!" He further insists that he is not speaking in riddles or metaphors and that his sister-in-law was, in fact, a "shudh, desi, bina milawat ke 100% Ramsay Brothers wali saakshaat dayan".
His dramatic description leads to his brother slapping him, which finally introduces us to Yami Gautam, aka 'Mohini'. The character seems far more familiar with the supernatural than the family might expect. However, she is apparently not a witch, as 'Mohini' herself claims that she could eat two witches, three demons and four ghosts for breakfast. She is quoted as saying:
"Bas dayan? Do dayan, teen pisaach aur chaar bhoot toh main subah nashte mein kha jati hoon."
The teaser further hits at the film's unusual take on the family-entertainer format. According to the teaser, the film is set in Meerut and revolves around a seemingly picture-perfect bride whose arrival seems to have brought some peace to the otherwise chaotic household. However, things take a turn when her brother-in-law starts suspecting that she could be a "Daayan" in disguise. Towards the end of the teaser, 'Mohini' breaks the fourth wall and tells the audience:
"Deviyon aur sajjanon, a little request. THINK BIG."

As soon as the teaser was released, netizens flooded social media comment sections, sharing their views on Nayyi Navelli and Yami Gautam's role in the film. While some users pointed out how the colour schemes were giving Shraddha Kapoor's Stree vibes, others penned that the actress might be playing the role of Maa Durga. A comment penned, "Toh kya Maa Durga aa rahi hai? Jai ho Bhawani."
Another comment read, "Super Stree". A user wrote, "Best actress to portray Maa Durga." A commenter penned, "Everything is good, but why does the costume seem similar to that of Stree...can't they get a colour other than red?" For those who don't know, Nayyi Navelli marks a collaboration between director Balaji Mohan and writers Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma. The film will feature Yami Gautam Dhar and Addinath M Kothare.
Along with them, fans will also see Anurag Thakur, Sunita Rajwar, Mita Vashisth, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Susmita Mukherjee, Sonal Jha, Suneel Sinha, Prateek Pachori, Akshat Singh, Babita Pandey, Ajay Pal and Neeraj Singh in key roles. Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma produced the film under Colour Yellow Productions, in association with Amazon MGM Studios. Nayyi Navelli will release in cinemas on October 16, 2026, ahead of Dussehra.
