It has been six months since Savannah Guthrie's mom, Nancy, has been missing, and the kidnapper, addressing Savannah, said that her mom's life is in her hands. Nancy was last seen at her Tucson home in Arizona on January 31, 2026.

It was Crime journalist Briana Whitney, with Ashley Flowers on the Crime Junkie podcast, who spoke about the chilling details from the first ransom note. Nancy was kidnapped by a masked man who was seen in the surveillance clip and who had tampered with her doorbell camera. The details on the ransom note spoke about Nancy being scared, and it read:
"Hello, Savannah. We have your mother, Nancy. She is safe but scared. She will be held for ransom, and once payment is received, she will be released unharmed. We will be holding her for a maximum of seven days."

Briana Whitney further revealed that Nancy's kidnappers wanted millions of dollars in US currency, and two deadlines were given. It specified two sums as per a PEOPLE report: USD 4 million in bitcoin, and if it was not met, then the demand was increased to USD 6 million.
The kidnappers in their ransom note threatened Savannah and said that once payment is received to the Bitcoin address below, she will be released within 12 hours of deposit to a safe drop-off location back in Tucson. The kidnapper had mentioned in the note that Nancy was aware of the same and that her life was in the hands of Savannah. It further read:
"It is in the best interest of everyone to have this completed as soon as possible. You will not be able to contact me from here on out. There will be no negotiation. Do not play games. Law enforcement will not be able to help you."
The sender had also attached additional details related to Nancy's house. They revealed that she had a white smartwatch that was on the floor near her bed, like at the foot of her bed, and that there was a floodlight in the backyard that had been destroyed. It is worth mentioning that the FBI is still investigating whether the note is legitimate or not.
The FBI has not yet spoken about the matter, and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has not given any additional information. There were many theories that claimed Nancy was dead. The note did not contain details related to her death, nor did it ask for an apology or payment request for releasing her body. Savannah further revealed that no matter how much she tries to come to work daily, smile and find joy, there is a moment when she knows she needs the help of the people. Savannah had begged for help from people and did not miss the opportunity to ask the same.
Savannah earlier on the Today show had become emotional amid reports related to the second ransom note. She had shared wanting to take the opportunity to ask people, really to beg people, to come forward. Savannah is of the opinion that someone knows something and shared:
"This is a new story that today is on your radar, but this is the life that my sister lives, that I live, that my brother lives, that our extended families live, that our children live every day. And we are in agony, and we cannot be at peace.”
