Rare Hair DNA testing in Nancy Guthrie update brings no suspect

"The hair was done... and there was nothing."

The Pima County Sheriff accepted that investigators had hoped the evidence would give them a new direction in the case. But things did not turn out in their favor. Meanwhile, the FBI's Phoenix field office also confirmed the results in a statement. However, they refused to provide any further details. Yet, the authorities confirmed that the case is still under investigation.
Sheriff Chris Nanos explained that it is rarer to get usable DNA from hair than from any other type of evidence. At the same time, unlike other bodily fluids or touch DNA, hair genetics may not provide sufficient material to identify a person. So, these reasons make the testing difficult and unpredictable.
Multiple labs in the U.S. are examining the DNA evidence found at Nancy's home
Although Nancy Guthrie's hair has not yielded any results, investigators are still working on several other pieces of forensic evidence found at her home.
According to Sheriff Chris Nanos, they found a mix of DNA samples from Nancy's home. It contains genetic material from at least four different people. So, scientists are now trying to separate those profiles to find out if any of them could be linked to Nancy's disappearance.
The work of DNA testing has been divided among different forensic laboratories across the country. It includes the FBI laboratory in Quantico, Virginia. The Sheriff also mentioned that at least six labs are involved in analyzing the evidence. Sharing his views, he said:
"My understanding is there are at least five, maybe six, labs across the country that are working on all of this."
Therefore, some of the U.S.'s biggest forensic experts are working on the investigation. But, authorities have cautioned that there is no guarantee that the mixed DNA sample can be fully analyzed or that it will lead to the identification of anyone related to the case.
For those unaware, Nancy Guthrie went missing from her home on February 1, 2026, under suspicious circumstances. Since then, the lawsuit enforcement has gathered many pieces of evidence from her home to understand what happened the night she went missing.
Meanwhile, officials still hold the possibility that more than one person was involved. In fact, a doorbell camera had reportedly captured a masked man with a backpack outside Nancy's home, just hours before she went missing. Some reports also suggest that another masked person was also seen near the property.
But despite the images of those individuals, investigators have failed to recognize any suspects in public. In fact, Sheriff Chris Nanos said the authorities are keeping all options open during the investigation.
Savannah Guthrie is protecting an emotional plea
It has been 6 months since the investigators began looking for Nancy, to no avail. Meanwhile, Nancy's daughter, Savannah Guthrie, has once again appealed directly to anyone who might have some information about her mother's disappearance to come forward.

She requested a heartfelt video, which was later shared on social media. Savannah asked the people to make the right choice and helped her find her mother. In fact, she described the past several months as a nightmare for her family and requested that those involved show compassion.
Meanwhile, the Guthrie family has offered a USD 1 million reward for the inconvenience leading to Nancy's safe return. On the other hand, the FBI has also announced a USD 100,000 reward.
