Veteran actor Nana Patekar died at the age of 75, reportedly due to natural causes. He passed away on October 8, 2026, after succumbing to a cardiac arrest. Nana was reportedly found unresponsive in his Goa residence, after which he was rushed to a private hospital, where he breathed his last. Amid the outpouring of condolences, Nana's past comment about almost dying from a heart attack some years before has resurfaced.

Nana Patekar once felt like he luckily escaped death by cardiac arrest

Nana Patekar's sudden death left his friends, family, and close ones heartbroken. He was known as a realist, a straightforward man, and an amazing actor. However, his logic-based reasoning faltered when he believed the superstition that anyone who participates in the play Natsamrat dies an untimely death from a heart attack. He even thought he could have died 10, 15, or 25 years earlier if he had agreed to feature in the play. In his words:

"Whoever has done Natsamrat, the play, has died of a heart attack. When I was approached for Natsamrat, I refused to do the play. I said I would do the film. You put your life into the play. Had I done that too, I would have died 10, 15, or 25 years back."

According to Nana Patekar, whichever actor put their life into the play ended up losing it by heart attack, and it remains a mystery how. The Housefull 5 star cited Dr Laagu, Dutta Bhatt, and Chandrakant Gokhale as examples to support his argument. Nana stated that the primary reason for his refusal to feature in Natsamrat the play was the fear of dying by cardiac arrest, which now, after his October 2026 death, almost seems like a premonition.

At that time, Nana Patekar also shared that a movie role is remembered far more than a role in a play, which was another reason he rejected the play Natsamrat and accepted the offer for its film version, which was released in 2016. Nana's words have resurfaced following his death, as netizens found it to be an eccentric coincidence that his feared cause of death and his actual reason for demise were the same- cardiac arrest. Regarding choosing the film over the play, Nana Patekar stated:

"Once you do the role in cinema, it is immortal. Dr Laagu, Dutta Bhatt, Chandrakant Gokhale, everyone did Natsamrat the play; whoever was a part of it all died of a heart attack. That is why I played the character in the film Natsamrat."

More about Nana Patekar's death and late-night cremation

Nana Patekar, who died following a cardiac arrest on October 8, 2026, in Goa, was cremated with full state honours at his Nanchi Wadi farmhouse in Donje village on the outskirts of Pune later that night. The family performed the last rites around 11:30 p.m. However, the late-night cremation led many to wonder why the family had chosen to have the last rites at such an odd time.

Recently, Nana Patekar's son, Malhar Patekar, explained why the family held the last rites so late at night. The mourning son revealed that the family had expected the mortal remains of Nana to reach the village earlier. However, a delay in transportation meant the final journey took longer than they expected.

Malhar Patekar added that since the actor had passed away at the crack of dawn and several hours had already passed, the family decided to complete the last rites on Thursday, October 8, 2026, itself. For the unversed, according to reports, Nana Patekar died at 5:20 a.m. at the Manipal Hospital in Goa.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Nana Patekar's family as they cope with his loss.
