Mukesh Ambani and his family don’t need an introduction. They are famously known for their rich lifestyle and extensive business. While the Ambanis belonged to the rich class, his wife, Nita Ambani, once Nita Dalal belonged to a middle-class family. Her father, Ravindrabhai Dalal was the senior executive of the Birla group. It was Mukesh Ambani’s mother, Kokilaben Ambani, who had seen Nita at an event and had decided to make the former teacher, her daughter-in-law.
It is said that a daughter is her mother’s shadow and the same is the case with Nita Ambani, who is said to be the copy of her mother, Purnima Dalal. Just like her mother, Nita is a strong woman, who has proved her stance. The first lady in Indian business, Nita's rising profile in the Reliance Empire is inspiring for women, who tend to remain as a shadow of their husbands. While we all know a lot about Nita Ambani, here we are to introduce you to her mother, Purnima Dalal.
The chairperson and founder of the Reliance Foundation and a non-executive director of Reliance Industries, Nita Ambani is the daughter of Ravindrabhai Dalal and Purnima Dalal. Belonging to a middle-class family, Purnima is often spotted with her daughter, Nita, in her statement clothing a chiffon saree. She accompanies her daughter to the IPL matches of Mumbai Indians, and this got her the name of ‘Prayer aunty.’
Mukesh Ambani’s mother-in-law, Purnima Dalal is famously known as ‘Prayer Aunty’. Her charm works perfectly in the Indian Premier League as her daughter, Nita owns the IPL team, Mumbai Indians. It was in 2017 when during the final match between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiant, Purnima Dalal was spotted by the cricket fanatics. In the tenth season of IPL, during the nail-biting finals, Mumbai Indians needed just 1 run to emerge as the third time winners.
While the cricket fans were all worried and looked tense, hoping for Rohit Sharma, captain of Mumbai Indians and his team to bag the trophy, one elderly lady earnestly praying for MI’s win had splashed on the screen, taking away all the attention. Her priorities were sorted as she was busy praying to the almighty for her team’s win.
Sitting with the MI’s dignitaries, clad in a blue-green saree, she was seen praying with her hands folded and her prayers were answered as the team had lifted the trophy. That lady was none other than Nita Ambani’s mother, Purnima Dalal. After that, she was hailed as ‘Prayer aunty’ on Twitter.
While everyone was hailing the elderly woman for making Mumbai Indian’s lift the trophy, people were also curious to know more about her. It was Abhishek Bachchan, who had identified her, announcing that she is Nita Ambani’s mother and people call her nani. He had tweeted:
“That is Mrs. Ambani’s mother. Popularly referred to as “nani”. The lucky charm.”
She has been spotted in the stands several times after that historic moment and has been often seen praying for her team with folded hands and closed eyes.
On March 9, 2019, Nita Ambani and Mukesh Ambani’s elder son, Akash Ambani got married to his childhood sweetheart, Shloka Mehta. Later, we had got a glimpse of Nita’s mother, Purnima and sister, Mamta at her son’s wedding reception. It was Purnima’s simplistic fashion and her never-ending smile that had blown away everyone’s heart. Well, all we can say is that beauty lies in their genes!
In an interview with the Vogue, Isha Ambani Piramal had shared how her grandparents (maternal and paternal) and her maasi, Mamta Dalal, had a huge role in bringing them up, Isha Ambani Piramal had said:
“I remember, whenever mom and I had fights, we’d call dad to resolve the issue. My mom was way stricter. If we wanted to bunk school, dad would be like “It’s no big deal” but mom would ensure we ate on time, studied hard and got our playtime as well. My grandparents (paternal and maternal) and my maasi played a huge role in bringing us up.”
We totally believe that Purnima Dalal is God’s favourite child and has a special connection with the almighty!
