During night 2 of her Hollywood Bowl show, the singer shared a goosebump-filled moment connecting with Dolly Parton's spirit. She was about to perform Jolene in honor of her aunt, who died on August 25, 2026, at age 80. Miley revealed having a supernatural experience with her late godmother.
Miley shared that she has her aunt Dolly's mannequin in her bedroom, which she gave to her on Christmas. She revealed that it was dressed like her and built like her. While she was remembering her, she took her phone and played Jolene for her on video. She lit a candle and put flowers for Dolly. She said:
"I actually have a Dolly mannequin in my bedroom. She gave it to me for Christmas, and it’s dressed like her, it’s built like her, and when I was by myself I actually took my phone and I played ‘Jolene’ for her on video just holding it up to the mannequin and lit a candle."
Miley further revealed that she then asked Dolly that if she was with her, she should flicker the lights. She never said anything loud in words, but the entire hallway started flickering. She was quoted as saying:
"And I put a flower down for her, and I said ‘Dolly, if you’re here right now, flicker the lights,' and I didn’t say anything out loud, but the entire hallway started flickering."
Miley added that her fiancé, Maxx Morando, was also there and didn't know what she had said. She added that her aunt was with her on stage. Miley dedicated the show to Dolly, holding a framed picture of her Godmother, and asked the audience to sing with her. She said:
"He was there, but he didn’t know what I said. But I know [Dolly’s] here with me tonight, and I’m feeling some of the feelings I’m most afraid of, but having her here with me gets me through, and having you here with me gets me through. So no matter what it takes, this show is for you. And for Dolly."
In an earlier show, Miley had paid tribute to Dolly. She broke down remembering her aunt on stage and addressed the hate remarks she got. She also revealed that a fan shared commentary to get clickbait on their video talking about her.
After Dolly's passing, no will, trust document, or probate filing was made public, and it was unclear who would control her assets. According to a letter TMZ obtained, Dolly's properties and professional business are held in the DP Dean Trust, named after Dolly and her late husband, Carl Dean.
Dolly spent her entire career keeping her business private and her family away from the media. She set up trusts so that her personal affairs wouldn't end up in court. Less than a month after her death, people are disagreeing in public about what she wants. But one person clearly has instructions, and none of them have been made public.
