Megyn Kelly slammed Hayden Panettiere's parents for her untimely death
Amid Hayden’s death, her past struggles are once again leading the headlines. Be it her abnormal upbringing in showbiz or substance abuse, Hayden had dealt with a lot of issues in her life. Now, journalist Megyn Kelly blasted Hayden’s parents for not protecting the actress before her death.
During her recent appearance on her show, The Megyn Kelly Show, Megyn called out Hayden’s mom, Lesley Vogel and dad, Skip Panettiere, for being ‘failed’ parents, as she said:
“If your child gets to the age of majority and doesn't feel safe, loved, and cherished, you blew it. You failed at your job as a mother or father, you did. You failed. That's the ultimate F. You got an F as a parent. You made a bunch of money off of your daughter. You probably have a super nice car and a big house. You failed. You raised someone to the age of majority who doesn't feel safe, loved, or cherished. You're a loser.”

Hayden Panettiere and her mother, Lesley Vogel, were estranged at the time of her death
Hayden began acting in 1990, before she was even one. She first appeared in a commercial before transitioning into TV. By the age of 4, Hayden landed the role of ‘Sarah Roberts’ on the soap opera One Life to Live. It was her mother, Lesley Vogel, who introduced her to showbiz.
Every role Hayden picked was an effort to please her mother. Soon their mother-daughter relationship turned into a parent-manager dynamic. Hayden often felt their relationship was a business, and her mother was more of a boss to her than a parent. She told Us Weekly:
“Everything was business. I became the confidant and the assistant and the therapist and the shoulder to cry on and everything but her child.”

During the filming of Heroes, Hayden asked her mother to stop managing her work and just be her mother. Speaking to Us Weekly, Hayden revealed that her mom, as her manager, took a toll on her. She also revealed that her bond with her mother was practically non-existent, adding she had a stronger relationship with her father. Though she knew what she did was right, when her mom said, ‘You owe me’, it shattered the actress.
It was heartbreaking for her to know that ‘Having a normal relationship [with me] wasn’t something that interested her.’ But despite being estranged, Hayden hoped that she and her mom would reconcile one day.
It was on August 16, 2026, when Hayden passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest. A report by TMZ claimed that Hayden Panettiere was on a lot of medication. She had a bag full of medicines, and her boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, showed the police all of it. Narcan was also found in the apartment where Hayden passed away. It is administered nasally to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Hayden's cause and manner of death have not been determined. An autopsy showed no signs of trauma, and toxicology results are pending.
