Stacey King's sudden death has left the basketball world in shock. He was best known as a former NBA champion and popular Chicago Bulls broadcaster who has died at 59. Those close to Stacey describe him as someone with a larger-than-life personality both on and off the court. He has spent much of his life entertaining fans as a player and commentator. Stacey King spent the majority of his life in the public eye. But his wife, Debi, mostly stayed out of the spotlight. The couple got married in 2017 and stayed together for nearly a decade before his untimely demise. According to the wedding photographer, Kenny Kim, who captured their special day, the ceremony took place in Chicago. In turn, he explained that it was more like a union of the city's beloved basketball icon and his "beautiful wife, Debi". Since Debi led a private life, she rarely appeared in public interviews or on social media.

Therefore, little is known about her professional background. However, people close to the couple described the duo as having a "strong and supportive" relationship. Despite the privacy, Stacey often mentioned the importance of family. In fact, he even shared heartfelt tributes to his loved ones. Stacey is now survived by his wife, Debi and his four sons, Eric, Garrett, Brandon and Mason. Over the years, he often expressed how much his family meant to him. For those unaware, one of his final emotional social media posts came in May 2026, when he paid tribute to his late mother on Mother's Day. 

The NBA champion recalled how his mother taught him some important lessons that he hoped to pass on to his kids. Meanwhile, fans and NBA insiders have been sending their tributes to Stacey King. The Chicago Bulls officially confirmed his death, remembering him as a three-time NBA champion and beloved broadcaster whose passion for the franchise never faded. At the same time, Bulls Chairman, Jerry Reinsdorf also released a statement calling Stacey a beloved member of the organisation. 

What caused Stacey King's death?

According to the reports from ESPN Chicago, Stacey King died after suffering injuries from an accidental fall at his home. The incident reportedly took place on June 7, 2026. Later, longtime sports reporter, David Kaplan also confirmed the cause of death. But initially Chicago Bulls announced his death without giving any more details. In turn, the sudden nature of the events has shocked many, especially since King remained active on social media until a few days before his death. He was seen discussing the NBA Finals and interacting with fans shortly before the accident. 

More about Stacey King

Stacey King was born in Lawton, Oklahoma. He first rose to fame while playing for the University of Oklahoma. During his time there, he won All-American honours and helped to lead the Sooners to the NCAA championship game in 1988. Eventually, he was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the sixth overall pick in the 1988 NBA Draft.

Stacey also became part of the franchise's legacy alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. They won three consecutive NBA championships between 1991 and 1993. He also played for other teams in his career. Later, after his retirement, Stacey came to the Bulls organisation as a TV analyst in 2006. Since then, his interesting commentary, unique catchphrases, and passion for the game had earned him a special place in the hearts of fans.
