Notably, the duo has not made a public appearance since March 2026, and this time, they came out together for Robert Kraft’s annual Fourth of July party in the Hamptons on July 4, 2026. Although Shamin Abas has not revealed a lot of details about her early life, she is known as the founder and president of a company called Shamin Abas Associates. The company bio says that they work with brands that display the “highest expressions of luxury, craftsmanship, and innovation.”

While Shamin Abas and Matt Lauer have been in a relationship for some time, the duo shared a close friendship until they started dating seven years ago in 2019. The pair has continued appearing together on various occasions, including a vacation in New Zealand in 2019 and going out on a date in the Upper East Side in New York in 2023.

While Matt Lauer’s romance with Shamin Abas is currently in the headlines, he has been married twice in the past. Matt’s first marriage was to Nancy Alspaugh. The duo was employed at PM Magazine during the ‘80s when they met for the first time. The pair tied the knot in 1981. After being together for eight years, Matt and Nancy separated in 1989.
Despite their split, Nancy once said that she has maintained a close bond with Matt and his family members. Nancy stated that while they divorced at one point, she knew that she could always trust Matt. Back in 2017, Matt was facing allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviour at NBC, and Nancy showed her support towards him. Nancy recalled her experience working with Matt and said:
“I never saw him as a power monger or somebody who would abuse his position in any way. That’s why it’s so shocking, I think, for the people that really know him and really love him and they want to get the good stuff out… The selfless, giving part of him, which people tend to forget whenever this kind of situation comes up.”
Nine years after his divorce from Nancy, Matt Lauer and Annette Roque exchanged vows in 1998. Rumours of their split emerged in 2017 after she was spotted without her wedding ring in New York City. An insider also revealed in 2018 that Matt and Annette had no chance of a reconciliation. In July 2019, Annette Roque filed for divorce, which was finalised a few months later in September 2019.
