Cristina Sanz, who appeared on Born This Way, has passed away at age 36. For the unversed, the A&E reality series follows the stories of adults with Down syndrome. The news of her passing has left everyone shocked. The young woman had become a well-known face on the internet, with a solid fan base. Her sudden demise has left her fans heartbroken.
Talking to TMZ, Christina Sanz's parents revealed the cause of her sudden death on July 8, 2026 (ET). Mariano and Beatriz Sanz told the news outlet that their daughter died of a heart issue after going into cardiac arrest on Monday, July 6, 2026 (ET). The couple also paid tribute to their daughter on Instagram on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 (ET).
Taking to Christina Sanz's Instagram, Mariano and Beatriz Sanz shared the heartbreaking news of her passing. The note explained that the Born This Way star suffered a cardiac arrest while she was at her Day Program. However, despite the medical team's best efforts she passed away. The note called her death completely shocking and unexpected. As the family mourned the loss of their beloved daughter, the note could be read as:
"It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that our daughter, Cristina, passed away Monday morning. She suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while at her Day Program and was rushed to the hospital. Despite the doctors' best efforts to stabilise her heart, she did not survive. We are grateful to have been by her side at the end. Her death was a total shock and unexpected. We will forever treasure the gift of her life. We will all carry in our hearts the wonderful 'Cristina moments' that she gave us."
Meet Christina Sanz's husband, Angel Callahan
Christina Sanz appeared on seven episodes of Born This Way from 2015 to 2016. Among other things, the series chronicled Sanz's relationship with her husband, Angel. The couple's wedding was covered in Season 4 of Born This Way, which aired on A&E on August 15, 2018. The season followed the group as they counted down to a single milestone: the wedding of Angel and Cristina.
The wedding episode aired on A&E on September 5, 2018. However, PEOPLE shared a sneak peek of Angel Callahan and Cristina Sanz's wedding after a candid conversation with the couple. The interview also gave an insight into their special day, as wedding planners, Meghan Clem and Katie Webb spoke about the vision for the ceremony. Clem spoke about the inspiration behind the wedding and said:
"Cristina and Angel really loved Beauty and the Beast. They loved the romance, the candelabras, the dancing, and the elegance that the movie and the couple showcased. We wanted to take that and their story and run with it."
While the details of how the couple met are unknown, their marital bliss was extremely short-lived. The couple broke up in 2021 amid stresses during the COVID-19 pandemic, TMZ reported.
