Jessica Hughes, the widow of Alex Hughes was his closest pal and confidant. The couple built a life of love and happiness away from the public eye. Jessica avoided the intense scrutiny that comes from being a part of the Hughes family. Alex kept his and Jessica's relationship private, apart from his public persona as a football analyst and son of the legendary Mark Hughes. Jessica, referred to as Jess in some reports, was the childhood sweetheart of Alex Hughes.
Alex and Jessica met at school when they were both teenagers. They became fast friends, and soon it turned into something more. After dating for a few years they got married and became parents to two children, Sebastian and Leonardo. Jessica's father, David Pollock adored his son-in-law and gave an emotional speech during Alex's funeral. The entire family was heartbroken by his sudden passing, and his dad, Mark Hughes expressed his grief by sharing how much his son meant to him.
Mark shared that he and his wife, Jill were devastated at losing their "wonderful son" who was also a caring brother to Curtis and Xenna and a loving dad to his two kids. As per Mark, Alex was loved by many and will forever remain in their hearts. The former Manchester United star also shared that his late son, Alex Hughes had "good friends and colleagues" who will miss him just like the bereaved family. In his words:
"Jill and I are totally heartbroken by the sudden and unexpected loss of our beloved son Alex. Alex was a wonderful son, brother to Curtis and Xenna, devoted husband and father to Jessica and their two beautiful children Sebastian and Leonardo. Alex was player recruitment lead at Grimsby Town FC, and had many good friends and colleagues. He will be so deeply missed by us all."
What was Alex Hughes' cause of death?
An inquest ruled that Alex Hughes died from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS), also known as sudden adult death syndrome. For the unversed, SADS is a sudden, unexpected death caused by a cardiac arrest. In such cases, the heart's structure usually looks normal, but a fatal heart rhythm problem occurs that disrupts the electrical impulses.
Such conditions are often seen in healthy young adults and children, frequently linked to inherited genetic disorders. Alex Hughes also suffered from similar condition and passed away due to a sudden cardiac arrest at his home. Talking about Alex's career, he had a brief playing career, on the books of Stockport and Wrexham. He then joined Blackburn in 2007 when his father, Mark Hughes was acting as their manager.
Alex served as the team's performance analyst and after a year with them moved on to his next venture. He joined Manchester City in 2008 as their analyst when his father worked as their manager. Alex also followed Mark later to Fulham before charting his own course abroad. His untimely demise left the football world missing out on what more he could have achieved.
