Meet Malik Beasley's Wife, Montana Helena, A Model, As NBA Veteran Gets Indicted In Gambling Case

NBA veteran, Malik Beasley has recently found himself in hot water. For those unaware, the former Detroit Pistons guard has been indicted on federal charges related to a sports-betting scheme. Reports suggest that Ed Davis was also indicted as part of the investigation. Amid this, the focus has shifted to Malik's personal life, especially his estranged wife, Montana Helena Klein Yao. 

Who is Malik Beasley's estranged wife, Montana Helena Klein Yao?

Montana Helena Klein Yao was born on August 5, 1997, in Newport Beach, California. Her heritage has been shaped by several cultural backgrounds. Her father, Paul Yao, was initially a citizen of Hong Kong but then moved to the USA in 1965, also bringing his Chinese heritage. Montana's mother, on the other hand, comes from English, Irish, and German ethnic backgrounds. 

Montana completed her schooling at Malibu High School in 2015, after which she rose to fame when she won the Miss Malibu Teen USA title. This also placed her among the top ten at Miss California Teen USA in 2016. Her title paved the way for a successful modelling career, including work for ZARA and other renowned brands. Apart from modelling, Montana has also established herself as a successful businesswoman. Along with her business partners, she co-owns JaggerEdge, which produces global luxury tech accessories. 

Montana Helena and Malik Beasley's relationship 

Montana began dating Malik Beasley in 2018. With their relationship blossoming, the couple soon welcomed their child, a son named Makai Joseph Beasley, on March 26, 2019. Montana and Malik tied the knot the following year in March 2020. However, in November of the same year, photographs of the NBA star holding hands with Larsa Pippen led to rumours that Malik was cheating on his wife. It became a huge public scandal at the time, leading Montana to file for divorce in December 2020. 

Despite this, the duo overcame the tumultuous period in their relationship and celebrated the birth of their second child, Mia Love Beasley, on November 11, 2022. Their relationship hit a roadblock again in 2025, prompting Montana to file for separation a second time. 

Malik Beasley has been indicted in a gambling case

Malik Beasley did not appear in the NBA last season as he was part of a gambling investigation. Malik is reportedly working with the government on his “voluntary surrender.” For those unaware, Malik and Ed Davis, who were teammates on the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2020-21 season, were accused of working together to manipulate the former's performance during the 2023-24 season. Additionally, Malik was also knee-deep in gambling debt, leading him to loan money from Davis.

To pay off the debt, the duo also got involved in a betting scheme along with three other people. Together, they placed tension of thousands on a game that Malik Beasley played during the 2023-24 season, playing against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Malik was also accused of rigging a game in the same season, playing against the Charlotte Hornets, where a bettor put money on the NBA star hitting the over on his rebounds.

According to reports, the charges that he is now facing, along with Davis, former NBA agent, Paolo Zamorano and two others, include sports bribery, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, honest services fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Speaking about the indictment and investigation, Malik's attorney, Steve Handy, said in a statement:

“An indictment is not proof of guilt or evidence. It is merely a charge of probable cause. The investigation was a year and a half long, and we maintain Malik's innocence of all charges.”
