A year later, the incident has come under the spotlight once again after his wife (now widow), Dr Tenisha Warner, filed a USD 1.2 million lawsuit against his mother, Pamela Warner, on July 20, 2026. Tenisha accused Pamela, who serves as a successor trustee of the Warner Family Trust, of withholding her share of Malcolm's estate.
As per Tenisha, Pamela didn't fulfil the financial mandates outlined in her and Malcolm's 2022 prenuptial agreement. The former claimed a USD 1 million life insurance policy payout, USD 50,542 for wedding anniversary payments, and serveral other previously decided-upon financial aids. Dr Tenisha Warner (maiden name Tenisha Hancock), the widow of late The Cosby Show actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, maintains a very private life. Not much is known about her, except that some experts claim she is a clinical psychologist by profession. Notably, during his lifetime, the actor kept the identities of both his wife and daughter completely out of the public eye.
When asked why Malcolm doesn't post their pictures, he shared on the Hot & Bothered podcast that he considers it the "best decision" to keep them away from the intense scrutiny faced by the families of public figures. He, however, stated that he loves to talk about them and wants to let everyone know how happy and fulfilled they make his life. He mentioned:
"Obviously I don't post them. I talk about them, because they are obviously the hugest parts of my life, the best parts of my life, best decisions I've ever made, but I like to keep them and their identity private. I love talking about them because I want people to know that it is possible to be happy and to have love and love really be enriching."

Two months after Malcolm's tragic death, in September 2025, Tenisha herself revealed her name and identity as his better half on Instagram, posting a couple photo from their wedding to mark their anniversary. The heartfelt caption of the post read:
"Thank you for holding us in so much love during this tender time. Tomorrow marks our anniversary — and my heart is wide open. For the first time, I’m sharing a glimpse of the love that began it all. I can still hear my husband's laugh, still feel the way he made room for every part of me - every tear, every dream."
All about Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Tenisha Warner's love story
Malcolm met Tenisha when he was 45 through a mutual friend. Before that, he was on a self-imposed break from dating for a long time. On their first date, he reportedly said he likely wouldn't have kids, while Tenisha replied that she definitely would. Due to their different views, they weren't sure where their relationship was headed. So they decided to take things slow. They built a bond of friendship for several months before things turned romantic.

Five and a half months into knowing Tenisha, Malcolm's views changed, and he wanted to start a family with her. The couple then tied the knot in 2017. They then welcomed a daughter, MacKenzie Warner, and chose to keep her off social media to give her a normal childhood away from the spotlight. She was eight years old at the time of her father's death.
Talking about Tenisha and Malcolm's bond, he reportedly shared that they didn't even fight a single day in their first ten years of relationship. Their love for each other was evident until his sudden death in 2025.
