Amid the investigation, Brian Trascher, who helped look for the body of the 18-year-old, has made some shocking revelations about the findings.
Brian Trascher makes new revelations in Nolan Wells death case
Brian Trascher was among the team that helped search for Nolan Wells following his disappearance on July 4, 2026 (ET). The 18-year-old's body was found along Horn Island's shoreline, and he believes dangerous water conditions may explain how Nolan ended up surprisingly close to where he was last seen alive. In a conversation with TMZ In The Known, the United Cajun Navy vice president alleged that the weather conditions forced his team to switch tactics as the search stretched into its second day.
He revealed that the team eventually took to the sky to cover more ground. Brian Trascher recalls how he and the pilot had been searching for over two hours on July 6, 2026 (ET), when they noticed several law enforcement boats converging on the northwest tip of Horn Island. They eventually swung in close and saw a body floating face down in the water near shore. He said:
"It was about 8:45 AM on July 6 when a park ranger on Horn Island discovered the body and called it in to law enforcement. We had the gentleman who donated his plane that day and I. Out of Gulfport, we had been flying for about 2 hours at that point. We were making a trek going from Horn Island over to Ship Island down to Chandeleur Island, which is south of both of those islands, about another 30 miles."
The United Cajun Navy vice president spoke with the media outlet on July 20, 2026 (ET) and revealed that they could not see Nolan Wells' face or identify any potential injuries as they were over 400 feet in the air. However, the body matched the description, and it was awfully close to Nolan's last known location. He was quoted as saying:
"I wanna stress that I was 450 feet in the air, so I did not have a good ground-level view. But normally when a body's been floating, you'll see some bloating and whatnot. He wasn't in the water that long. The water temperature was high. He has a low body mass index, so both of those factors together, normally we would look for a body to pop up on about day 4, but we knew it's possible it could pop up as soon as day 2, and this was day 2. But again, the body did not seem at that height to be disproportionate to the way it should look."

Brian Trascher also offered his theory about what may have happened to Nolan Wells. While stressing that he was a search-and-rescue professional, and not an investigator, he shared that based on where Nolan was found, he believes a rip current may have initially carried him in one direction, before a change in the tide brought him back toward the beach. However, Brian also expressed his surprise over how close Nolan washed up to the last place he was seen alive.
According to reports, Nolan was laid to rest Monday, July 20, 2026 (ET) in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, with Rev. Al Sharpton officiating the funeral. Nolan Wells' family continues to cast doubt on theories that he drowned, claiming he was a strong swimmer. However, the authorities have yet to find any proof of foul play.
