Who is Laura Owens' father, Ronn Owens?
Laura Owens’ father, Ronn Owens, was born on October 17, 1945, in New York City. He is one of the most well-known faces in broadcasting, having begun his journey in 1968 after graduating from Temple University. Over the years, he hosted radio programs in multiple big cities like Atlanta, Philadelphia, Miami, and more before he decided to move to San Francisco’s KGO Radio in 1975. There, Ronn hosted The Ronn Owens Program for several years. According to reports, when the show was at its peak, it used to have over 500,000 regular listeners.
Despite being with KGO for a long time, Ronn Owens was famously off the station’s airwaves during an 88-day contract dispute, which ended in February 1995. Some time after this, Ronn grabbed significant spotlight when his show was simulcast in Los Angeles on KABC. He took the time slot that was previously held by Michael Jackson as the musician’s ratings were dropping.
However, when Ronn’s show also failed to generate adequate ratings in LA, he had to vacate the KABC time slot after one year. At that time, he not only blamed the radio station for failing to properly promote his show but also Michael Jackson for “taking shots” at him, both “on the air and off the air.”
Still, Ronn Owens has proved time and again that he is one of the best radio broadcasters there is. In 2002, he was named one of 25 Greatest Radio Talk Show Hosts of All Time by Talkies Magazine. In 2007, Ronn was named Talk Show Personality of the Year by Radio & Records. His other accomplishments include being inducted into the Bay Area Hall of Fame in 2007 and the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2015.
In his personal life, Ronn Owens is married to KGO and KCBS Radio host Jan Black. The duo has two daughters together.
Ronn Owens has warned about his daughter, Laura Owens, before her pregnancy scandal
It seems that Ronn was already aware of his daughter, Laura Owens’ tendencies years before her pregnancy scandal with Clayton Echard came to light. Ronn had reportedly warned Laura’s ex-boyfriend, Michael Marraccini, that she had “a tendency to exaggerate or even flat out make things up.”
The conversation between the two reportedly happened when Michael began questioning several of Laura’s claims, including whether she was really pregnant. As their relationship became increasingly difficult, Ronn allegedly promised to help Michael “get out” of it. Additionally, it is believed that he also asked Michael to continue supporting Laura Owens until she was in a better emotional state.
While the conversation was mentioned in a sworn declaration filed in San Francisco County Superior Court, in a June 2026 statement, Ronn Owens strongly disputed that he ever told anyone about his daughter exaggerating or fabricating stories. Questioning the credibility of the claims, he said:
"I have never said my daughter ‘makes things up,’ ‘exaggerates,’ or anything remotely similar - not once, not to a friend, not to a family member, and certainly not to [the witness], whom I’ve met only a handful of times."
