Lucas Trejo's life turned upside down in a matter of moments after the tragic earthquake in Venezuela claimed the lives of his family. The Argentine footballer, who represents Venezuela professionally, was in Caracas when the earthquake hit, while his wife, Yanina Trejo and their two children, Aaron and Ainhoa, were at home in Playa Grande, La Guaira. The building collapsed during the quake that shook Venezuela on June 24, 2026, and after an intensive 74-hour search, the tragic news of their death was finally confirmed.

The news came as a massive shock for Lucas Trejo, who had celebrated his wife, Yanina Trejo's birthday, just days before the earthquake. Their family had initially been reported missing, but days later, the heartbreaking news was confirmed. According to NBC News, more than 1,000 people died in the earthquakes, making it one of the country's deadliest natural disasters in recent years. Who is Lucas Trejo?

Lucas Trejo began his professional journey as an Argentine defender who had joined Venezuelan club, Marítimo de La Guaira earlier in 2026. The club announced his arrival in February 2026, describing him as an experienced player who had already won two league titles in Venezuelan football. However, little did he know that months later, he would be faced with one of the greatest losses in his life. Known for his work on the pitch, Lucas had a close bond with his family and often shared moments with them on social media. 

The news of Lucas Trejo's family's passing was made public after Marítimo de La Guaira shared a tribute on Instagram confirming the deaths of Yanina, Aaron and Ainhoa. The club expressed condolences to Lucas while also remembering the many other victims of the earthquake. The statement could be read as:

"For the eternal rest of Yanina de Trejo (wife), Aaron Trejo (son) and Ainhoa Trejo (daughter) of our player Lucas Trejo. The big family of the Maritime Sport Club of La Guaira offers their condolences for the death of their relatives, which occurred last June 24th during the earthquake that shook the whole country. Directors, coaches, players, administrative and operational staff of the club, we ask God for the eternal rest of the family of Lucas Trejo. We also continue to pray for the rescue of other victims of this catastrophe in La Guaira."

Lucas Terjo was extremely close to his wife and two children

Lucas Terjo and Yanina Terjo had been together for several years before the tragedy shook their lives. The couple tied the knot in 2020 after years of dating, and around the same time, Yanina shared a post on social media expressing her hopes for their relationship and future together. Their son, Aaron, was born in 2018. Two years later, the couple welcomed their second child, a beautiful daughter, Ainhoa. On her first birthday, Yanina posted a long tribute, thanking God for her daughter and describing her as the child she had always dreamed of having. Those family memories have now taken on a deeper meaning.

Following the confirmation of their deaths, Lucas Terjo also honoured his wife and children in a heartbreaking Instagram Story. He shared a family photograph showing all four smiling together. The loss can only be described as heartbreakingly painful, as Lucas shared an extremely close bond with his family and always made time for them despite his busy and demanding schedule. While fans know Lucas as a professional footballer, the recent tragedy has highlighted another side of his life, a husband and father who is now grieving the loss of the people closest to him after one of Argentina's worst natural disasters.
