For those unaware, she recently embraced motherhood after welcoming her first child with her husband, Luis Felber. The actress revealed that her daughter was born via surrogate in an essay that she penned for Vogue on September 16, 2026.
The publication even posted a sweet picture of Lena and her husband with the little one on Instagram. While Lena held the baby, Luis could be seen kissing the actress on the top of her head.
Who is Lena Dunham's husband, Luis Felber?
According to reports, Lena Dunham’s husband, Luis Felber, was born in 1986 in Winchester, England. With a Peruvian mother and a British father, Luis spent his early childhood in Peru and Chile before he moved back to Britain at the age of 7.
Luis is clearly proud of his Peruvian heritage. As a musician, he performs under the name Attawalpa, which is not only a nod to his heritage but was also inspired by his middle name, Atahualpa. In a July 2020 interview, he said that his Peruvian roots influenced his music both “sonically as well as visibly.”
Luis had initially taught himself to play the guitar when he was a child by watching MTV. In his 20s, he began playing for several bands.
In addition to writing his own music, Luis writes for other artists and even collaborated on a single with Mike Jagger, which was featured on Vinyl in 2016. He released his debut album, Presence, years later in October 2022. While introducing the album, he said that it represented “everything up until now.”
Coming to his relationship with Lena Dunham, Luis and the actress were introduced through “a series of friends machinations.” Their first meeting turned out to be a blind date, following which the couple ended up hanging out for hours and walking the streets of London. Recalling the time, Luis said:
“I’d been on quite a few dates in the past year. As someone who’s quite open, I find you hold a lot back on your first three dates. Or first 10 dates. I was just a bit fed up with that, so I just walked into the situation very myself, shall I say. And Lena liked that. And she’s the same.”
After just a few months of dating, Lena and Luis moved in together. While many might think that their relationship moved too quickly, it felt pretty natural to them. In fact, Luis admitted that while it might sound cheesy, you just know when you have already found your soulmate.
In less than a year of dating, the musician decided to propose to Lena. Interestingly, he said that he broached the topic with her when she was in the hospital. He said:
“[Lena] said, ‘Oh, I want to marry you someday.’ And I said, ‘Why don’t we make that someday, soon day?’ The next day, I went for a walk with my friend Tom, and he was going on about his life, and I was like, ‘I think I proposed to Lena last night.’ And when I got home, we made it real.”
Lena and Luis officially tied the knot in September 2021. The ceremony was held at a members-only club in London called the Union Club.

Lena Dunham revealed that her baby with Luis Felber was born 13 days after her due date. She recounted that when they were at the hospital, she was uber focused on the surrogate and simply in awe of her. In fact, she completely forgot to look down at her daughter until she heard the baby’s cry.
Lena believed that her daughter was preparing herself inside their surrogate’s strong and healthy body before being born. She also admitted that her desire to become a mother had not fully prepared her for the reality. She wrote:
“But she was preparing herself, inside our surrogate’s strong and healthy body, and as the clothes stacked up in the box, so did some sense that she was becoming real. These would be her clothes. She would be a person that we helped to dress, who made an impression on the world based on our choices, until she was old enough to do it herself.”
