Carly Simon’s eldest child, Sally Taylor, was born on January 7, 1974. She is a singer-songwriter and has released multiple independent albums since the late 1990s. Her discography includes Raw, Love to Play, Shotgun, Tomboy Bride, The Sounding, Real Love, and Solace. She has also released singles and EPs such as Beautiful in Time and Appetite.

Sally also established Conscious Company Media in 2012. The company publishes Conscious Company Magazine and hosts events and summits for entrepreneurs focused on purpose-driven business. She is even known as the creator of the Yoga for the Creative Soul program, which she teaches through workshops and retreats.

Sally has performed on TV shows including The Today Show and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. She has written for publications on creativity and business topics and regularly speaks at conferences about entrepreneurship and the arts. She is based in Martha’s Vineyard and remains active in the regional music scene. Outside the music industry, Sally has a son named Bodhi Taylor Bragonier with her husband, Dean Bragonier.

Sally’s brother, Ben, is also active in the music industry. He is a singer-songwriter and guitarist. He released his debut album Famous Among the Barns in 1997 on Sony. This was followed by many other projects, such as The Legend of Low Country, Listening, All That I Have, Cut and Cover, and Dawn of a New Day.

Ben did not share a very close bond with his sister for a long time. While speaking in an interview in 2007, Carly Simon said that her children fought a lot and Sally used to behave like a boss when Ben was around. However, things changed between them one day, and Carly recalled the same by saying:

“He actually slapped her on the back, and they both ended up crying. For the first time he felt empathy for her, and she realised they were equals. They’ve been close ever since.”

Carly Simon explained her diagnosis in the latest statement

Carly Simon said she was answering people who had asked about her silence and well-being. She shared that she has been learning to live with Parkinson’s disease. She explained it took time to process the diagnosis, adjust, and decide how much to say publicly. She noted that Parkinson’s is unpredictable and varies from person to person.

Carly stated that the issues began with arthritis in both knees and one hip, leading to three joint replacements. She first thought her worsening mobility was part of recovery. Eventually, walking became difficult, and she needed help. After evaluation at the Mayo Clinic, she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and began treatment, including medication. She said the illness does not follow a schedule.

She added that Parkinson’s can also cause anxiety, depression, exhaustion, and apathy. During this time, she was also treated for basal cell carcinoma on her face. The surgery affected her appearance and made her more self-conscious, which led her to withdraw from public view.

Despite this, she continued working and recorded a new album, Comes in Waves, from songs written over the years. She said music gave structure to hard days and showed that illness could change her life without defining it. She stated Parkinson’s is difficult, not a gift, and that she is still learning to accept it. She thanked her children, family, friends, caregivers, and doctors, and said she shared this because of the concern she received.
