Meet Asha Bhosle's Daughter Varsha, Who Committed Suicide In 2012, Amid The Singer's Hospitalisation

Asha Bhosle, the much-loved and celebrated singer suffered a cardiac arrest today, on April 11, 2026, at the age of 92. For those who do not know, the singer was immediately rushed to the Breach Candy Hospital, in Mumbai. According to reports, she is currently in the ICU and her condition is critical. However, no official statement has been released as of now.

Amid the concerning news, the attention has shifted towards Asha Bhosle's personal life. Well, for those unaware, the veteran singer had a really tough life. From domestic violence to two marriages and suicide attempt, she has faced everything. Who was Asha Bhosle’s daughter?

If a report by India Today is believed to be true, Varsha Bhosle was the daughter of iconic singer, Asha Bhosle and Ganpatrao Bhosle. She was a singer and a former columnist for web portals and magazines. Reportedly, she also had a history with depression. For the same reason, Varsha was undergoing treatment at Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai. Allegedly, Varsha was married to a freelance sports writer, Hemant Kenkre. However, the duo had a rough life and were divorced. Ever since the same, Varsha was living with her mother, Asha.

Why did Varsha Bhosle commit suicide?

While the exact reason behind Varsha Bhosle's death has not been revealed even after years, multiple reports claimed that the late singer took her own life. Reportedly, one of the biggest setbacks in her life was the demise of her close friend, Gautam Rajadhyaksha, who was a photographer. Varsha's family members once shared that she was deeply affected by the demise. Another reason was her divorce.

It is worth mentioning that in 2008, Varsha tried to commit suicide by eating multiple sleeping pills; however, she was saved by the doctors. Later, in 2012, she again tried to end her life by shooting herself with an unlicensed gun. Reportedly, Asha Bhosle was not with her daughter during the suicide. Explaining the situation, at that time a police officer shared:

"The driver told her that it is possible that Varsha might be sleeping. Deepali returned a couple of hours later to still find no answer to the door. This is when, worried, she rushed to the driver and asked him to enter the house. The driver then entered Ashaji's house from Lataji's flat and found Varsha's body."

The Bhosle family was devastated by Varsha’s alleged suicide

Soon after the demise of Varsha Bhosle, an official investigation had begun. Reportedly, the police tried their best to analyse each and every aspect of Varsha’s passing; however, towards the end, it was revealed that she commited suicide. At that time, one of the police officers had revealed that the entire Bhosle family was heartbroken and devastated by Varsha’s demise.

Later, a family friend of Varsha also stated that the late singer was living a very troubled and difficult life. The family friend also stated that the reason behind the stress was probably the pressure of being the daughter of Asha Bhosle. It is also worth noting that Asha was the only one who could handle Varsha’s mood swings. The family friend was quoted as saying:

"We kept our distance from Varsha because we were never sure how she would react. Asha was the only one who knew how to handle her. She (Varsha) led a troubled life. Was it the pressure of being Asha Bhosle's daughter, we will never know. None of the second generation Mangeshkars made it big, but it seems Varsha took it to heart."
