Matt Brown Was 'Triggered' After A Fight With Brother Over Money, Says, 'I Was Never Treated Right'

Former Alaskan Bush People star, Matt Brown is currently missing. Following his disappearance, his brother, Bear Brown, shared in a TikTok video that he and the Brown family fear that Matt might have killed himself on the night of May 28, 2026. The suspicion emerged after the police found an unidentified male floating face down in Washington's Okanogan River a day before. Additionally, a relative confirmed spotting Matt near that exact campground hours before the body was found. Amid the buzz about exactly what might have happened to Matt, details of his feud with Bear and his family surfaced.

Matt Brown recounted a 'tough day' of fight with his family

Matt Brown often candidly shared details of his personal life, including a feud with his family on social media. In 2021, he had a major fight with his family over not receiving his share of funds raised from Alaskan Bush People. Matt alleged that his late father, Billy kept all of the cash they amassed from the Discovery reality-documentary, and his siblings were unwilling to share the profits with him. In the video, he also mentioned being in touch with one of his brothers, who acted as a mediator between him and his family. Matt trusted him to persuade the family to give him his due.

Matt wanted to talk things out with his family, not only about his payment, but also because he wanted to reunite with them. After undergoing rehab and overcoming his alcoholism to a great extent, he felt that he was ready to be back to his parents and siblings. Notably, the reality TV star completed six months of combined inpatient and outpatient rehab in January 2019, and has spoken openly of his newfound sobriety on Instagram. He didn't want to be "the guy that's off the rails any more." His exact words were:

"I was being really cool. I deducted everything I had spent, my previous rehabs stuff like that, I was being really understanding. Trying not only just to get what's mine but to reunite with the family [by] letting them know I'm not the guy that's off the rails any more, and how hard I've worked on myself and getting over the issues from my childhood and from the time filming the show."

Matt Brown's family allegedly did not reciprocate his attempt at reconciliation

Matt felt betrayed when the one sibling he trusted with the mediation did not help him; instead, said careless words that "triggered" him. Matt said that he tried his best to keep his calm as he had seen his dad's alcoholic episodes and knew what not to do. He ended up raising his voice a bit, but didn't scream. However, he realised that even after all his efforts, his family never treated him right. Matt Brown even alleged that his family spread lies about his addiction. He stated:

"I found out yesterday, it's like he was trying to set me off again...I was very triggered. I didn't scream at him, I did at a couple of times get frustrated and raise my voice...They always say stuff that isn't true about me and my addiction and I realise they are never going to do the right thing and I was never treated right."

Matt couldn't bear it anymore when his sibling told him that he deserved to have his money stolen because he was an alcoholic. He sadly told his followers that his family "took what I had worked so hard for." Not just his immediate family, even his relatives viewed him as "too toxic" to remain closely associated with him, as per sources. They were allegedly fearful of Matt when he consumed alcohol, describing him as a "functional drunk" capable of getting paranoid and lost in dark thoughts.
