It is worth mentioning that Timothee won the Best Actor Award at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice for his stellar performance in Marty Supreme. The sports drama is allegedly loosely based on the life of the tennis champion, Marty Reisman. Now that Marty Supreme is set to release on OTT, find out what to expect.
Marty Supreme stars Timothee Chalamet in the lead role. Timothee, as 'Marty Mauser', is an aspiring table tennis player determined to be the best in the sport. The highest-grossing sports drama, Marty Supreme, earned nine Oscar nominations in 2026. However, the film failed to win a single award at the Oscars 2026. Now, if you are wondering when and where to watch the hit sports drama, then we’ve got you covered. According to the latest reports, Marty Supreme is set to release on April 24, 2026, on Amazon Prime Video.

Set in 1952, the story of Marty Supreme revolves around 'Marty Mauser', a Lower East Side shoe salesman who is really good at table tennis. But instead of hard work, 'Marty', believes that as he is talented, he deserves special treatment, including getting things faster, having more opportunities and being forgiven for his silly mistakes. However, as he gets noticed in the table tennis world, his attitude begins to affect his relationship and growth. He faces numerous setbacks that constantly challenge his belief system.

To become the first ping-pong star of America, 'Marty' doesn’t hesitate to lie, manipulate, steal, and humiliate. However, the turning point in the story comes when he beats his opponent, 'Endo'. This is the first time 'Marty' chooses pride and self-respect over easy gains. For those aware, ahead of the final match, a wealthy power broker, 'Milton Rockwell', offered Marty money and a trip to Japan if he purposely loses the match to 'Endo'. Despite 'Milton's' warnings that he could get stuck in Japan, 'Marty' plays a fair game.

Marty Supreme is not exactly based on real-life incidents. But the story of the sports drama starring Timothee Chalamet as 'Marty Mauser' is loosely based on the life of American tennis champ, Marty Reisman. He was nicknamed 'The Needle' for his quick wit and his physique. The sports drama blended real events with fictionalised elements, including 'Marty's' affair with Gwyneth's character, 'Kay Stone.'

During a 2025 conversation with Good Morning America co-anchor, George Stephanopoulos, Timothee opened up about his character, 'Marty Mauser'. Timothee shared that 'Marty' has a huge dream, and as he doesn’t have any supporters, he became his own supporter. Timothee highlighted that his character didn’t have 'no' in his dictionary. The actor was quoted as saying:
"He has a huge dream. And when you have a big dream in life, and you don't really have anyone supporting you when you're young, you're your best supporter. And that comes with all the positive qualities of self-belief and all the negative qualities that border on selfishness. 'No' is not in his vocabulary. He compromises with no one, including himself. This story's representative of the fact that, you know, you can pursue a singular dream that doesn't have to be a selfish one, that could be a communal one, it could be becoming the greatest table tennis player in the world."
