Mandira Bedi had met her late husband, Raj Kaushal in 1996 and after dating for three years, they had tied the knot in February 1999. 12 years after their happy married life, the couple had welcomed their first child, a baby boy, Vir Kaushal, and nine years after his birth, they had adopted a baby girl, Tara Bedi Kaushal in 2020. According to reports, it was around 4 am that Raj had complained about getting a heart attack and Mandira had called their close friend, Ashish Chowdhry to rush him to the hospital. However, it was too late and before they could reach, Raj had left this world, leaving his wife and kids.

Mandira Bedi's close friend and actor, Mini Mathur and singer, Sona Mohapatra came out in her support, slamming the trolls for their shallow thinking. Sona had tweeted, “That some people are still commenting on Mandira Bedi’s dress code or choice to carry out her husband Raj Kushal’s last rites shouldn’t surprise us. Stupidity is more abundant than any other element in our world after all."
Mini Mathur’s tweet in Mandira Bedi’s support could be read as “Makes me sick that people are having a field day trolling a grieving woman for performing last rites on her husband instead of asking a stranger or her tiny kid. Or for not having the time to dress the way THEY imagine grieving women should dress. Fools!! Applaud her strength!"
Mandira Bedi and Raj Kaushal had known each other for 25 years and for a woman to put up this brave stance, is commendable!
