On September 9, 2019, Jay Bhanushali and Mahhi Vij had celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary. However, this time, it was a bit special for both of them as they had celebrated their beautiful day with their daughter, Tara Jay Bhanushali. While wishing his wife Mahhi, Jay had posted a heartfelt message on his Instagram handle and had written, “What is the difference between mother and wife? One woman brings you into this world crying … and the other ensures you continue to do so. “On the day of our wedding, I felt such a great happiness that I never imagined it would be possible to re-experience something similar, but when our baby was born I was even happier. My beloved wife, I thank you for so much for all the happiness and love you give me. In an interview with the Deccan Chronicles, Jay Bhanushali had revealed how their mutual friends played Cupid between them and tried to set them up. Jay had said, “The first time I saw Mahi was at a card party thrown by a common friend. I was attracted towards her right then. We didn’t converse as such, since she was there only for 5-10 minutes. But after a year, we met again at a club. This time too, through a common friend, and that’s how we clicked.” To which, Mahhi had added, “Yes, our mutual friends introduced us and that time, I had no idea that they were trying to get Jay and me together!”
Sharing their special memories from the wedding, while Jay Bhanushali had stated, “In her family, every celebration starts with a Patiala peg. That was quite shocking for my Gujarati family since in our weddings, usually alcohol is not served. However, at my wedding, alcohol was flowing from every corner! Also Punjabis don’t need a reason to celebrate. Every day is a celebration for them and a Patiala peg is a must!” Mahhi Vij had remarked, “I wish I was as thin as I was when I got married!”
In a 2012 interview with The Times of India, when asked, “When did you tie the knot? And why such a low-key wedding after a grand engagement?” Mahhi Vij had retorted, “We got married this year, and it was a court marriage with just our family present. I had a big engagement ceremony and I got my chance to wear a lovely ghagra and jewellery. After working continuously for two years, I have just lost all patience and I didn’t have any patience to go through a reception!
