Shikhar Dhawan, who created history by breaking the jinx against South Africa during the ICC World Cup 2015, is one of the most sought-after Indian cricketers. Well, his cricketing ability is not the only thing that makes him popular, it is his love and dedication towards his wife, Ayesha Mukherjee, as well.
Shikhar Dhawan and Ayesha Mukherjee have a unique love story. From the love for sports to their love for tattoos, the two had found true love within each other. How this moustache swirling cricketer met the Bengali beauty over the Internet will blow your mind away. Read yourself and know how two people from different continents met each other.
Ayesha Mukherjee was born in West Bengal. She is an Anglo-Indian as her father is an Indian Bengali and her mother is of English descent. Ayesha was just 8-years-old, when her family moved to Australia. Ayesha’s love for sports had introduced her to cricket, football and other major sports, but she found her passion in kickboxing. She is a trained kickboxer and a sports fanatic.
Ayesha was first married to an Australian businessman. The couple had welcomed their first child, Aliyah in 2000. She was born in Melbourne, Australia. Five years later, Ayesha and her Australian husband had become parents for the second time with the arrival of Rhea in 2005. But soon, problems cropped up in their marital life, resulting, Ayesha Mukherjee’s divorce with her Australian husband.
One can find love anywhere, even on the Internet. A similar thing happened to Shikhar Dhawan and Ayesha Mukherjee. Shikhar was scrolling through his Facebook feed, when he stumbled upon Ayesha’s pictures. He was bowled over by her looks instantly. It turned out that cricketer, Harbhajan Singh was a mutual friend between Shikhar and Ayesha on Facebook. It was Shikhar, who had dropped a friend request to Ayesha, which she had accepted. Long Facebook conversations led to a budding friendship. And as they say, friendship is the first step of love.
Shikhar had disclosed his feelings for Ayesha to Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan had told Shikhar about Ayesha’s marital status, but when you are in love, nothing else matters. Despite her marital status, Shikhar couldn’t hold back his love for this Bengali beauty.
When you love someone, age is just a number. Same goes with the case of Shikhar Dhawan and Ayesha Mukherjee as Ayesha is 10 years elder to Shikhar. But Shikhar was completely smitten by Ayesha and her zest for life. For him, she is his best friend first and the two loves exploring new things.

Shikhar Dhawan’s family was not quite happy with their bond. It was a difficult task for Shikhar to convince his parents for his marriage with Ayesha. Shikar Dhawan’s father, Mahendra Pal Dhawan was strictly against their marriage, but his mother, Sunaina Dhawan was positive about their union.
After a lot of convincing, Shikhar and Ayesha had gotten engaged in 2009, but Shikhar insisted on waiting for a while before they tied the knot. He first wanted to establish himself as a successful cricketer of the Indian cricket team. He also wanted time to gel up with Ayesha’s children, Aliyah and Rhea. Ayesha too made sure that her daughters have a cordial relationship with Shikhar. Finally, after defying all odds, Shikhar and Ayesha had gotten married on October 30, 2012.
Despite being a Bengali, Shikhar and Ayesha had a traditional Sikh wedding, which was attended by many cricketers including Virat Kohli, whom you could see dancing merrily in baraat.
In an interview with The Times of India, Shikhar was asked whether it was difficult for him to get along with Ayesha’s daughter. The handsome cricketer had stated, “It wasn't difficult at all. Joh cheez kudrat se hoti hai woh ekdum aapki zindagi mein dhal jaati hain. Meri kismet mein thi meri do betiyaan, toh woh ekdum se meri zindagi mein aa gayi. It just clicked. Today, the way they love me, I feel so fortunate.”
Although, Shikhar Dhawan’s daughters, Aliyah and Rhea live with their mother, Ayesha in Australia, the doting father, Shikhar never miss an opportunity to shower his love for them. On the occasion of Daughter’s Day, i.e., September 27, 2020, Shikhar had shared a collage of pictures with Aliyah and Rhea and had written, “Happy Daughters Day! Love and miss you both” followed by a heart emoticon.
Shikhar and Ayesha's son, Zoravar
It was in 2014, when Shikhar and Ayesha had welcomed their first child. Ayesha Dhawan had given birth to Shikhar Dhawan’s son, Zoravar Dhawan, on December 26, 2014, completing the family portrait of the Dhawans. Shikhar Dhawan is not just an amazing husband but is also a doting father of his three kids, Aliyah Dhwan, Rhea Dhawan and Zoravar Dhawan.
Do you know, Ayesha’s elder daughter, Aliyah is only 15 years younger to Shikar? Shikar Dhwan’s age is 35 and his elder daughter, Aliayah Dhwan’s age is 20. Talking about the other Dhawan siblings, then Rhea is 15 years old, whereas as Zoravar Dhawan’s age is 6.
Ayesha Dhawan is Shikhar Dhawan’s biggest cheerleader. Though Ayesha has to travel back and forth between Melbourne and India, you can see her in the stands, supporting her husband. Her support has been Shikhar's strength throughout his career, and he has mentioned it numerous times. Shikhar Dhawan has improved a lot as a cricketer post his marriage but, has he changed as a person after marriage?
Well, Ayesha answers it like this:
For me, he's always been the same. A caring guy, who nurses dreams to make it big in life. Not that his fortunes have changed post marriage; he's worked hard to achieve them. That's so sweet of him. But there's cricket also, which he's equally passionate about. He's a responsible guy who knows the art of balancing. I am so happy to be his wife. What amazes me the most is his problem-solving abilities. Also, when he's not playing, he is a domesticated man who loves helping his wife and kids in their tasks.
Shikhar Dhawan’s love for his wife, Ayesha is quite visible on his IG handle as time and again, he posts love-filled pictures with her. On the occasion of their fifth wedding anniversary on October 30, 2017, Shikhar had posted a picture with Ayesha and had written the most heart-warming caption with it which could be read as “Hue poore 5 saal humari shaadi ko, lagta hai aise ki tumse pehle nah koi zindagi thi meri, bhar diye itne rang ki rangeen ho gayi yeh duniya meri..Har kadam pe mere saath tu, tu hi meri khushi tu hi meri baat tu, tujhse hoon main , dil bahar hai har raat. Recently there were some rumours off lately about Shikhar and Ayesha’s marriage hitting rock bottom and their falling marriage, suggesting that all is not well between the couple. Shikhar and Ayesha are not on good terms anymore and both of them have unfollowed each other on social media. Shikhar too has not posted any pictures of Ayesha on his IG handle, adding more fuel to the fire.
