A few weeks back, on August 29, 2026, the 77-year-old American singer and songwriter sparked health concerns after he was hospitalized following his St. Louis concert. According to the latest reports, Lionel was admitted to the hospital again after suffering another heart issue. This led the singer and songwriter to cancel three tour dates with Earth, Wind & Fire. Lionel’s kids are reportedly worried about him and urged him to cut down on touring.

Lionel Richie’s kids are reportedly worried about him after the third hospitalization. They want him to slow down following his latest hospitalization. According to reports, Lionel was hospitalized this week for heart issues in the midst of an ongoing Sing a Song All Night Long Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, causing the act to cancel its next three performances.
Back in June 2026, he was hospitalized after becoming dizzy during the opening night of his 26-city North American tour with Earth, Wind & Fire in St. Paul, Minnesota. Later, in August 2026, Lionel spent three days in the hospital following a concert in St. Louis, Missouri. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). A source told Page Six that Lionel’s kids urged him to cut down on touring due to the health concerns. The insider shared:
"Lionel’s kids really want him to slow down. They’re concerned about him and worry that he’s pushing himself too hard, especially after everything that’s happened over the past few months. Seeing him have these health scares is obviously scary for them. And they wish he would give himself more time to rest and just hit the pause button once in a while."
In a statement shared with Page Six, the four-time Grammy winner’s rep said that Lionel underwent a common procedure for Atrial fibrillation (AFib). The doctor said everything went perfectly.
Due to his latest health issues, the next three concerts on Richie’s tour with Earth, Wind & Fire have been canceled, which were scheduled for September 26, 2026, in San Francisco; September 30, 2026, in Chicago; and October 2, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio. Despite Lionel’s kids’ concerns, the insider said they understand that performing remains a huge part of their dad’s life. The source shared that the kids never want their dad to give up music and touring. But they definitely want him to prioritize his health first. The source added:
"The reality is, though, they know that’s not really Lionel. He loves what he does, and he’s going to want to keep performing for as long as he possibly can. That’s just who he is at his core."
