For the unversed, Lindsay was charged with murdering her three young children in their home while her then-husband, Patrick Clancy was allegedly out to get food. Following that, multiple similar cases of moms strangling their babies have surfaced, including some women who have been tagged 'copycat killers' by the internet.
The recent addition to the list of the alleged killer moms is Massachusetts-based Janette MacAusland. She is charged with the strangulation and murder of her two children and is currently facing trial for the same. Following Lindsay's mistrial declaration, Janette made a shocking appeal.
Janette MacAusland made a shocking appeal after Lindsay Clancy's case ended in a mistrial
Lindsay Clancy was charged with the triple murder of her and ex-husband Patrick Clancy's three children, five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan. The court proceedings of Lindsay's case ended in a mistrial on September 4, 2026, after the jury deadlocked 11-1. Just a week later, when a similar case of another murder-accused mom went to trial, the defense made a shocking move.
We are talking about the case of Janette MacAusland, who, just like Lindsay, was accused of strangling her kids to death. However, much like Lindsay's case, where very few expected a mistrial, Janette's case has also taken a shocking turn. For those unversed with the case, it involves a 49-year-old acupuncturist from Wellesley, Massachusetts, who is currently facing first-degree murder charges for allegedly killing her two children.

Janette's late kids included seven-year-old son Kai and six-year-old daughter Ella. They were discovered dead in their home on Edgemoor Avenue in late April 2026. At the time of the incident, Janette and her husband were involved in a divorce and custody battle. Recently, after Lindsay Clancy's mistrial declaration, it was reported that Janette's lawyer, Joseph Krowski made a shocking move- petitioned the court to dismiss the case or release his client on bail.
The defense based their appeal on a broader conversation regarding the criminalization of severe mental illness. They reportedly referenced the high-profile Lindsay Clancy triple-murder case, which ended in a mistrial. As for the prosecution's stance, they requested additional time to formally indict Janette MacAusland, as reports regarding the official cause and manner of death of her two kids are awaited from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
More about the Janette MacAusland case
Janette MacAusland is accused of killing her two children while being mentally disturbed due to a contentious divorce and custody battle with her husband. The reason for the split of the couple is not publicly known. After the tragic incident, she allegedly fled to her aunt's house in Bennington, Vermont. As per her aunt, Janette was distraught, injured, and covered in blood when she reached her house.

Janette's injuries are suspected to be the result of an apparent suicide attempt, quite similar to that of the Lindsay Clancy case. According to police affidavits, she allegedly confessed to her alleged crimes to her aunt and police officers. Her reasoning behind strangling her children in her bed was that they could "go to God together."
Janette was then arrested and taken back to Massachusetts for trial, and the defense is pushing for case dismissal and bail, citing deterioration in mental health and parallels with the Lindsay Clancy case. The Wellesley mom pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, and recently, her request for case dismissal and bail was rejected.
