Kim Kardashian Thought Stepdad Caitlyn Jenner Would 'Kill' Her As She Caught Him Cross-Dressing

Much of her private life is public due to the constant media coverage and her family-based show, The Kardashians (formerly Keeping Up with the Kardashians). Among Kim's near and dear, a comparatively less-featured part of the show is her transgender stepfather, Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce Jenner).
Kim's dynamics with Caitlyn have been well-documented in her biographical book Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created The Future. In the memoir, she recalled walking in on a pre-transition Caitlyn in a female get-up, getting scared for her life and running away.
Kim Kardashian ran away after seeing pre-transition Caitlyn Jenner dressed in women's clothes
In her memoir, Kim Kardashian recalled when she had just ended her short-lived marriage to Damon Thomas. At that time, Kim left the home she shared with the music producer and, with nowhere to go, drove to Caitlyn Jenner and Kris Jenner's home in Calabasas. When she entered the residence, she found her pre-transition stepdad cross-dressed as a woman, wearing a wig, full makeup, a dress, and heels.
That was the first time Kim saw that side of Caitlyn, and she thought she had accidentally learned someone's 'deepest, darkest secret.' Kim got scared that Caitlyn might 'kill' her for knowing something nobody else knows and quickly ran out of the house. The Skims founder was sure Caitlyn noticed her coming and going. She then drove to her sister Kourtney Kardashian's house and told her the whole story. In Kim's words:
"I walked in, and at first I didn't know who it was, and I walked right past. And then this feeling of fear gripped me. Like, 'Oh my God, did I just find out the deepest, darkest secret in someone's life?' Like, I thought… he was going to kill me. So I ran out the front door, and I'm sure he saw me leave. And then I called Kourtney [Kardashian]…hysterical."
Calling the incident "hysterical", Kim shared being unable to understand what to do after witnessing a cross-dressed Caitlyn. At Kourtney's house, Kim looked up the term 'cross-dressing' on the former's iBook computer, which led them to a television interview about transgender people. At that time, her stepdad called and told her he would explain everything someday.
Caitlyn added that he needed Kim to swear that she wouldn't tell her mother, Kris Jenner about it. Caitlyn added that her marriage to Kris and everything they have built would fall apart if she learned about his secret. Thinking that Kris would 'kill' him, he stated:
"Bruce called Kim and said, 'I'd love to tell you more about it one day, but whatever you do, never tell your mother. She would kill me, and it would be over."
Other than Kourtney, Kim claimed that she "never told a soul" about what she saw at Caitlyn's house. "Kourtney didn't even tell Taryll [Jackson]," Kim said, referring to Kourtney's then-longtime boyfriend, R&B singer and member of the group 3T. It became Kim and Kourtney's secret, regarding which the former stated, "Kourtney and I just had our…thing."

Caitlyn surprised her family in November 2025 when Kris called her at their farewell dinner, which took place at their LA house, El Dorado Meadow. It is the home where Caitlyn's daughters, Kendall and Kylie, spent their high school years. Kris and Caitlyn hadn't been in contact after their 22-year marriage ended in divorce in 2014, and they awkwardly reconnected a decade later.
When Caitlyn appeared on The Kardashians, she looked nervous but smiled. Her daughter Kylie, sharing her feelings about the family reunion, called it a great step. Kendall was shocked and "definitely wasn't expecting" Caitlyn there; however, she was glad Kris invited her.
