For the unversed, he was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, in January 2026. His family announced his sudden passing with a statement and revealed that he was battling cancer.
Kevin Keegan found out about his stage four cancer after a car crash
It was in January 2026, Kevin Keegan found out about his stage four cancer. During an event, Keegan revealed that the cancer had spread to other parts. He found out about his cancer while he was undergoing treatment after a car crash. Kevin shared that he had a car accident and he had to undergo an operation.
After that, Kevin had an operation, and during the scan before it, they found out that he had cancer, and it was stage four cancer. He said:
"I was in a car accident and, through that, I had to have an operation. Whilst having the scan for the operation, they found out I had cancer. They said they had an absolute top doctor for fighting what you have got, which is stage four cancer. Liverpool supporter, so I knew I wouldn't walk alone."
Kevin revealed that his doctor told him that it was a new treatment and had a great result. However, the strike rate was just 33 per cent while he thought it would be 80 per cent.

Kevin Keegan's family announced his passing, and it was revealed that the former England player and manager was surrounded by his wife and his daughter during his last moments. He was a loved husband, father and grandfather. He said:
"It is with immense sadness that we announce that Kevin Keegan has passed away at the age of 75. The former England player and manager had been battling cancer and was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments. Kevin, a double Ballon d'Or winner, was a much-loved husband, father and grandfather. The family would like to thank Kevin's incredible medical team for all their support. This is a hugely difficult time and they are requesting space and privacy."
For those who don't know, Kevin was one of the best players of his generation, and he had a super impressive career. He had lifted the First Division trophy four times with Liverpool and won the Ballon d'Or from 1978 to 1979. After his retirement, he took the role of a coach in 1992.
As soon as the news of his death surfaced, netizens expressed their shock on Reddit. One user wrote, "Wow that was quick after his cancer news. So sad. Such a passionate man and loved football as a game, not a grind. An all-time great." Another user penned, "Honestly loved watching his teams play, and his outlook on football always spoke his mind. I remember him saying the PL was getting boring during the top 4 era."
A third user penned, "Mainly remembered for his time as a manager by those younger but what a player he was. Hard to explain just how much hope and belief he pumped into the city when he was manager. Felt the entire region would die for him if he asked; one of the biggest personalities in Premier League history and will be truly missed."
A fourth one wrote, "Will always be remembered for that 'love it if we beat them' interview, but this one was also great. He was such an unashamedly emotional man, much like Ian Wright. I've got a lot of respect for that."
