We have grown in a world, where moms are the hero and fathers are the strange beings (in most cases) who don’t know how to express their feelings. And in every Hindi film, no matter how much the daddy loves his kids, he always portrays the tough guy, who thinks he knows the best yet does some odd things. However, thanks to the Tinseltown daddy-cool, Karan Johar as he is redefining fatherhood in the best possible way. Karan is an adorable father to God's beautiful gifts, Yash Johar and Roohi Johar. The director made a revolution with his choice of being a single father exactly two-years back when he decided to opt for surrogacy. While a lot of people applauded his decision, there were many who took a dig at the filmmaker. But, the societal notions never stopped Karan from living the life he always dreamt of.
Recently, in an interaction with the DNA, Karan revealed how he is the one chasing his daughter around the home for pampering session while Yash is a proper daddy's boy. He stated, "No. I am only trying to get her attention. I have to chase her to give me a hug and a kiss. On the other hand, each time my son spots me, he flashes a big smile and welcomes me with open arms. Only a parent can understand what that feels like. He further added, "When I walk into the room, Yash runs into my arms. What happens in my heart at that time is something I cannot describe in words. Barring your own children, who else meets you with so much excitement? I’m always running behind Roohi, who is totally her grandmom’s girl. She calls my mother, ‘Mamma’. My son is interested in me and Roohi is interested in my mother. So, we have our balance right."
Karan is a doting father, and we remember how he has always wished to become a parent. Earlier, before the birth of Yash and Roohi, the director had talked about his same wish of being a parent and had said, “I don't know what I'm going to do about it but I feel like I would like to be a parent. I don't know how it's going to happen but I do feel the need because I have plenty of love to offer and I'd like to take it forward. This feeling needs a release and requires a platform. And that platform could be by being a parent.”
After the birth of Yash and Roohi, Karan didn’t shy away from talking about the journey of fatherhood. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Karan had opened about the same, and had said, “My life has changed since Roohi and Yash arrived. At 44, this is my biggest blockbuster. I still haven’t realised the enormity of what’s happened. They’re only two months old. And all they do is eat, sleep, burp, wail and poop. Kabhi khushi, kabhie gham! While I stare at them in wonder. But I can’t get over the fact that they are mine.”
Karan had further gone on to add, “It’s like a powerful switch has suddenly come on in my life, filling the emptiness in my personal space with new energy. I get teary-eyed just looking at them. It’s surreal to think of them as my daughter and son. It’s daunting even, but in a gorgeous way, when I wake up suddenly at night to remember that I have life breathing in the next room that I’m totally accountable for.
