Karan Johar is undoubtedly a name amidst the A list of filmmakers in Bollywood. He has marked an incredible career in the film world, and has created some of the most cult classic films, as well as launched some of the most celebrated names in the film industry currently. Apart from that, he often grabs limelight with his socialite nature, as he is not just spotted in several celebrity gatherings, but he also maintains a close relationship with many of them. However, despite being such a celebrated and loved personality, Karan’s personal life often grabs attention. While the 51-year-old filmmaker is still single, nevertheless, he is a proud single dad to his twins, Roohi and Yash Johar.
In a recent interaction with Prabal Gurung, Karan Johar opened up about the matters of his heart and revealed that finding the perfect idea of love has been a difficult thing in his life. He mentioned that in his 30s, he had difficulty in finding the right partner for him, and being in a relationship where he was an equal part of. Referring to his earlier revelation of having been in a one-sided relationship, he mentioned how that experience only empowered him. In his words:
“I haven’t been in very many relationships. When I came into my own, it was in my mid-30s when I realised that I could do what I wanted to do in the zone of love, it was difficult. It was not easy to find the right partner, and be in a relationship that was equal. I have had a bout of one-sided love, which I made Ae Dil Hai Mushkil from. It was my sad ektarfa pyaar, which lasted many years, but taught me the power of love itself. It empowered me, even though it broke my heart.”

Well, while Karan hasn’t really found his true love till now, it doesn’t either make him feel lost out on love on the contrary. Ask the filmmaker about it, and he reveals that although he gave his love life many chances that did not fructify, nevertheless, he is still surrounded by love, that comes from his mother and his kids. Nevertheless, he revealed that somewhere in the corner of his life, he does wish to have that special someone, whom he could hold on to during the most difficult times of his life. Karan mentioned:
“I have not been able to find that relationship where I can give my all, because I gave my all to that one relationship and it didn’t fructify. And I have my children; it is my most important love story. I have my mum, who is my pillar, my strength, my core. I feel I’m consumed by so much love already. It would be lovely to be in a relationship, because there are lonely moments, and there are moment where you need that tactility; you need someone to hold you and hug you, but somehow or the other, things haven’t fallen into place. I pray to the universe that eventually I can talk about a relationship of strength in my life.”
In one of his previous interactions with Mid-Day in a press conference, Karan Johar had opened up about the film, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which he had directed, and revealed that it’s plot actually came from his real-life, one-sided love story, which he shared with a person from within his family. However, Karan mentioned that the only difference was that the person in real life still lives on, while in the film, that particular character, played by Anushka Sharma, dies.

In one of his earlier interactions with Anaita Shroff Adajania on her show, Feet Up With The Stars, Karan Johar had opened up about his dating life. Known to be one of the most eligible bachelors in Tinseltown, Karan mentioned that he does not like casual flings and dating. Instead, he emphasised the need to feel a certain level of comfort with his partner, with whom he can converse and interact on a deeper intellectual level.
