Karan Johar Takes A Dig At Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Shares How SRK's Character Rahul Contradicted Himself

One of the most talented filmmakers, Karan Johar made his directorial debut with the film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The film starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji in the lead roles, and it has been one of the much-loved movies in Bollywood. Moreover, Karan received immense success with this film. But recently, the eminent filmmaker, KJO has criticised the film.

Karan Johar shared that his directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai featured gender politics

As per the reports in Indian Express, Karan Johar, in an IMUN event, criticised his own directorial debut and shared that he propagated wrong gender politics in it. The filmmaker stated that he feels like he has grown as an individual. Talking about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karan stated that he firmly believes that the gender politics in that film was wrong. He also mentioned that there is no denying the fact that the movie is widely loved, but he would never want anyone to do what 'Rahul' was doing in that film. Karan can be quoted as saying:

"I feel like I have grown as an individual, The first film that I made, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, I firmly believe that the gender politics of that film was all wrong. It is propagating incorrect gender politics, there is a lot of surfacesness in that film. Of course, there is nostalgia so you love it, but you don’t scratch the surface of the film and see that what Rahul is doing is actually not what I would want all the Rahuls in the audience, or all the boys in general, to do."

Karan Johar mentioned what was wrong with the dialogue in the film

Karan Johar also slammed the character of 'Rahul' in Kuch Kuch Hota Hain and shared that he was doing all kinds of wrong things. Talking about the same, KJO mentioned that the character was contradicting himself throughout the film. As Rahul said, he would fall in love once, but he fell twice. Rahul, in the film, also mentioned that he would get married once but did it twice. Elaborating more on the same, KJO stated:

"Rahul was saying all kinds of wrong things. He said, ‘Hum ek bar pyaar karte hai (We fall in love once)’, but he got in love twice. He said, ‘Hum ek bar shaadi karte hai (We marry once),’ he got married twice. He was contradicting himself throughout the film,"

When Karan Johar reacted to a viral video claiming Kuch Kuch Hota Hain is 'the greatest murder mystery of all time'

July 8, 2023, marked 25 years of Karan's directorial debut of the film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. On that day, KJO took to his IG handle and reshared a video, which was originally uploaded by Karan Mirchandani. The influencer's bio can be read as a “chronic Bollywood overthinker” who makes “obsessive reels about Bollywood and general film tropes.”

However, the influencer claimed Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to be a murder mystery. He also explained why he thinks so. As per the influencer, in the movie, 'Rahul' and 'Anjali' were aware of their feelings for each other, and there entered 'Tina', the rich woman. With her arrival, 'Rahul' and 'Anjali' made a plan, and the former married her, only for 'Tina' to die 'mysteriously' so that 'Rahul' could inherit her wealth. However, it was Karan who dropped the video along with three smile emoticons.

For the unversed, Karan Johar is currently on a promotional spree for his upcoming movie, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani, starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. The movie will mark KJO's comeback as a director after several years. His last directed movie was Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
